Name Change D&D

If your child after they turned 18 wanted to change their name would you let them or be ok with it? Say they never liked the original name that you gave them or some other reason.

Why or why not?

It isn't a matter of "letting them." They are going to do what they want. I would be VERY sad, and I wouldn't call them by their new name b/c I LOVE the names I have chosen out for them. I would be devastated as a name nerd.

When my child turns eighteen they can do whatever the smurf they want.
As long as I don't have to pay for it.

Once they're 18, you don't need to 'let them.' They don't need your permission.

I'd be sad (since DH and I put so much time, effort, and thought into choosing the name), but at 18 they can't exactly be stopped. I probably wouldn't be able to remember to call them by the new name.

I would probably have my feelings hurt, but if they're 18, they don't need my permission.

My brother has a speech impediment. He's never been able to say his own name correctly. His name is "Ryan" but he says "Lyon" He wanted to change his anme to "Bartholomew" but my mother absolutely refused. he is 19, but doesn't have his own money to do so. He's been made fun of his whole life and every time he's asked his name.

That is definitely a case where I would be supportive. I'd help pay for it to, on the condition that I would either call him Bart or still call him Ryan as like a middle name lol. But seriously, I would support my kid if that was the case, and I wouldn't make him/her wait until adulthood for it.

I wouldnt care...I thought about changing my own name cause I hate it, its a terrible name.

My friends little sister changed her name when she was only 4. She was born Julia and told her mom she wanted to be Ruby, so her mom legally changed it. She stayed Ruby till she was 16 then changed it back to Julia. She is now 21 and goes by Angel, which is her middle name. lol

I think she has name issues. lol

my kids can call themselves what ever they want..I'd still call them by the name I gave them just out of me being used to it.
