pooping problems

my baby was 3 weeks old the 29th, he pooped that morning, it was greenish yellow and seedy and thats it. Yesterday he pooped last night but it was diarrhea still a greenish yellow and seedy, and he has not pooped at all today. My mid wife said babies can go days without pooping, just wondering if anyone else has had this problem? And if there is anything i can do to help him?

is he bf or ff? Is he showing any signs of being constipated?

formula fed babies should poop at the minimum once a day--most poop like 2-4 times. Breastfed babies can go as long as 10 days without pooping because they use every last drop of breastmilk for nutrition. It all depends on what your baby eats. Call your pediatrician if hes formula fed and only pooping once every couple days he may have some suggestions. My oldest was very constipated til he was like 9 months it was awful....the seedy look to the poop is normal so dont worry about that. If your switching between formula and breast milk that is known to constipate babies.

formula fed babies can go 72 hours without pooping before its considered constipation unless they are showing signs of pain or discomfort.

yeah they can go up to 72 hours but....its probably not best if your child is consistantly pooping once every three days. you also want to look for things like the baby not passing gas or liquid stool coming out. That may be an indication of his intestines having a blockage somewhere. Hard round balls of poop should also be reported to his ped. Id just call in the AM and run your concerns by him for the best advice. Bowel habits are not the same for everyone. Each person has their own normal.

My lil one has not pooped in 3 days, I fed him a bottle with 1 ounce welchs white grape juice mixed with 2 ounces of water. He pooped it all out 1 hour later. He's a month old. He's breastfed but I've been mixing his bottles with formula the past 5 days to try to transition him to formula.

Thats all I was saying. Some FF babies can poop every 3 days and it be perfectly normal. Thats why I asked the OP if there were any other things going on the would signal something not normal happening.

he grunts and farts and when i check his diaper there will be like a skid mark of poop but not full on poop
