Quoting The Doctor:" Nubain = AWFUL."
I had nubain PP. because I was in labor again because I retained my placenta. I felt like vomiting within minutes, they couldn't get me the Reglan soon enough.

Holy crap... I have such distinct memories of them tugging on the umbilical cord and pullin' it from side to side to get the placenta out.

I was like "Woah... thought they weren't supposed to pull!"

And then it came out and they had a bunch of medical students crowding it and poking it. bwahaha.

Yeah. You couldn't pay me to take it again. I was completely out of it for hours. I hardly remember anything after the point that they gave me my first dose.   Don't even remember holding her for the first time.

I had demarol in my IV.
Two min later I was freaking out and paging the nurse saying "Omg...the room is spinning in circles!"
Then I couldnt focus on anything people were saying. I remember the nurse asking "On a scale of 1-10, how bad is your pain?" Onlly thing I could say was "...uh huh....". My mom, sister, and bff laughed at me. lol

No, you can't.

And i can almost promise you, when those contractions are coming full force, you won't even feel them put the epidural in.

I was completely into it, just dizzy and loopy.

Thankfully, it wore off a long time before she was born.

HAHA.

I was such a nice labor person. I was pissed at the nurse for telling me not to make noise, didn't say a damn thing.

But... I was so pissed. She kept telling me not to make noise. I'm like... whut the smurf, man? Just let me do mah thing! I wasn't screaming, I was moanin'.

My nurse was awesome until she told me to stop crying an hour into pushing because she had back labor four times and did it natural and never cried. I turned into the Hulk, i swear.
I just told her if she made another sound i was going to 'slap her silly'

I was a nutcase.

The epidural is named after the space in the spine in which the catheter is placed... so no. There are IV pain medications available.

I beg to differ.
I was dilated 8cm and doing just fine. asked my doctor for a local. He said no, but suggested I get the epi because "even though you are doing good through contractions, the crowning is a different story". Scared me, so I got an epi. I went from breathing through contractions, talking to people, smiling, making jokess to bawling, screaming and begging them to stop and please hurry. Then I was given Oxygen because my heart rate slowed down. Yeah, epidurals suck major butt.

You will get a spinal block for a section. Why would you only want IV pain meds for major abdominal surgery?
