I had shooting pains down the backs of my legs, my baby was OP and I was told this was the reason for those types of pains. I went pain med free so I have no idea if an epi would have helped or not.

I had back labor with my first and got sciatic pain the second time. The back labor I can handle but the sciatic..no!!!! Labor wasn't even in full swing and my hip felt like it was dislocating with ever contraction... Just wondering if an epidural would help it.

thats exactly what it felt like with me! it sucked. they said my sciatic nerve may have a touch of damage from little bits head but after the first couple months pp it felt better. my back would cramp and my legs would go numb for a while

Your lucky, my scitica never went away, it just pops up randomly to piss me off lol now I'm pregnant again it's killing and I have so long to go, I managed to go natural the last two times (apart from gas and or which I think i just bit the mouth piece more than anything lol) even with back labor and the sciatic but this time I want the drugs lol

i really was lucky. the epi dude got it right the first stick. the sample he pushed through worked right away and both legs felt funny. it only messed up when the nursed had me get on my hands and knees to get baby to turn. her head was in my back and wouldnt drop into the birth canal. thats when my leg and hip felt like dying

Ok, So I know this a couple months late, but I was searching for sciatic help and found this.

I had severe sciatic pain with my first. I have had sciatic pain since I was 16, due to years of competitive gymnastics. Pregnancy made it worse, and labor was the worst. I had pain the entire LONG labor, and I actually got an epi. The epi made everything better and I was able to sleep until it came time to push. I did not have front contractions but the epi did NOTHING for my sciatic. My butt hurt and my left leg felt like someone was stabbing me in the back of my thigh for 3 hours straight. So, not what you wanted to hear, but if you really believe in a natural labor and are only considering an epi for sciatic relief, it won't help. Atleast it did not help in my case.
