I think it depends on how many births they have attended and nothing to do with if they had children..

I think that a midwife who has a better chance of having empathy for the women in labour... BUT it is completely dependant on the midwife his/herself. Some midwives have attended 100+ births but they are still uppity bitches (from experience, my sisters midwife was a total cow that said no one but her knew what they were doing, not even the mother) and some women/men just fit into the role perfectly.

Nothing to do with having kids.

My first midwife was.21 no kids and amazing. My second one was older had kids and.a bitchy bitch lol and I thought she lacked the skills my.first one had....who happened to be her assistant when she first started out but was better imo

I just ask because we were watching something the other day where a midwife was having her first baby and SO goes "ok so now she can be a real midwife" lol, thats male mentality for ya.

Nope. Having kids doesn't automatically make one an expert on labor and delivery and childcare.

One born every minute?
I think a midwife who has children can be more understanding than one who hasn't. They know what it's like. But at the end of the day it's the qualification and personality that makes a good midwife.
I've had 2 different midwives and they've both had children and were wonderful, my last Mw I had was working with a 3rd student when I had aura. I don't know if she had children or not, I don't think so, but she was lovely as well. You need to have the right personality to be a midwife I think because its such a HUGE job.

Oh god women who have had children are generally far more unsympathetic than those with no children! But in saying this midwives who have children know when to tell you to stfu and get on with it - even though you probably don't want to hear that but she is generally right.

I would say it is no different. Mostly because if they've experienced enough births, it really is no different. My midwife is old and near retirement (Like hopefully once I have my next one I won't have more since she plans to retire sometime after next year) and she has kids, but I think her experience in general with delivering babies matters more. She has a wonderful assistant (well more than one midwife working with her and like 2-3 assistants but I like one in particular lol) who's in school to be a midwife and will be taking it over for her when she retires who does not have any kids and probably won't for a while, but I feel she's also extremely compassionate and helpful so I think she'll do fine.
