Lol, I have the best Mother in the god damn world but she hasn't a CLUE what I got up to as a kid - Jeez, she would have a heart attack if she did!

No. That's why you're naive.
Parents can think something is up. They can look and look and look.
They can ground and scream and punish.
But if a teenager is determined, then they will find a way.


A late friend of mine had awesome parents. Very involved, Christian, sweet, good people.
They parented awesome, and did everything they could to help their children thrive.
My friend hung out with the wrong people, eventually started doing heroin, and passed away at 18.
Her mom did everything she could do. Grounded, took things away, positive reinforcement, rehab. She couldn't help her. She couldn't do a damned thing.

A late boyfriend was into heroin, too. He ended up on house arrest and overdosed. His mother never left the house, and rarely left his side just to try to keep him alive. He still found ways to get heroin dealers to toss smurf in the back yard and do it. He ended up purposely overdosing to kill himself at the age of 20.

My mom did every single thing imaginable to keep me from doing the things I did. Drinking, drugs, having sex, and disappearing for who knows how long.
I gave that woman hell, and feel terrible now. But again, nothing she could have done. I was sneaky.

Ahh another proud parent that is acting like a child... why degrade some one when you can accept what they say as their opinion and not get derogatory or flustered about it? In other words... if statements trully bother you this much stay away from posting on articles about OTHER PEOPLE'S PROBLEMS would be my suggestion..... to everyone else bickering back and forth why not attack the true culprits here? Where were parents? Teachers? any other mature person in this girl's life... including the father of the child and his responsible parties? Not defending this girl in what she did... mental health or not... you know what's right from wrong if you know where to stick it. One of the real problems in society is people being judgmental - 'you know right from wrong if you know where to stick it'. No, this is not true. I was educated about sex from the age of 5 - sure I didn't do anything about this knowledge until I was 13 but that isn't the point. Just because a teen is curious doesn't mean she knows what she is doing. I really feel for this little girl - she will never be the same again - she will never regain her innocence and the fact that she has done what she has done will be punishment enough for the rest of her life. Now, she needs love and compassion to help her understand. She'll need therapy for the rest of her life I presume.

Yes, I agree with you for the most part... we are educated early about sex... but at the younger ages did you know what hole to go into? I'm sure your parents were very mature about the while " birds and bees talk" but what about the girls that learned in health class and not from their parents? every one has a general idea,yea? But do they have an actual concept until it comes down to it? I do agree she needs TLC now... I just also want to make sure that people understand that even if you have mental health problems 9 times out of 10 you still have a certain awareness..... even if I didn't phrase it properly ... *my bad*

Of course what she did was wrong - but people saying she needs to be put away for life or given the DEATH penalty is ludicrous. I'm sure she knew what she was doing was bad but I really think she didn't know to what extent. I couldn't imagine being in her shoes... I'd hope I wouldn't have reacted like her but I can't rule that out. It must have been truly terrifying.

If she has a mental illness she needs to placed in a hospital where they can help her. If she is sane then she deserves prison time.

I don't think she has mental issues I think she was smurfing terrified! She needs love and compassion and life time of therapy. Her entire life will be punishment now.

Not necessarily. If she is a sociopath, for example, she won't give it another thought. It does depend on her mental well-being. She needs to be removed from society, either in a mental facility or prison.
