helping friends who lost their baby yesterday

A good friend of ours and his wife lost their full term baby yesterday. She had been in active labor since Wednesday but was not dialating well. The nurse broke the water yesterday and found the baby had Poo'd in the water. The dr performed an emergency c section and waa unable to save the baby as she had choked.

My question is what can we do to make this any easier for them. I know i can never understand their pain and we can not take it away. What can I so or do to make it easier, I know they are not eating and will not be released from the hospital for another 2 days. Right now I'm just being there to listen

I think being there for them is the best thing you can do, hun, but also let them know to be honest with you if they want space.

Maybe cook them a few meals that are easily reheated so they don't have to worry about that when they get home?

There's nothing you can do to make it any easier for them.
Listen if they want to talk, offer some company, but don't be pushy and leave them alone if they want to be alone.

The hardest time is coming in which they go home without their child. They will have to put up baby items and try to live normally and that will be impossible for a long period of time.

They will need you to most when they are home. Offer to cook meals, help straighten up, or just be there and watch tv with them.
