I've never had one before, but I heard it's like miscarrying. You bleed a lot and you have cramps! Sorry I'm not much help!

They'll probably give you something else there. I was given Tylenol with codeine to take home for a non surgical early one. But they want you to take that specifically because they don't want you to already have acetaminophen in you most likely.

Very uncomfortable or painful cramping for a few days, bloody. Everything that happens with a natural miscarriage if it goes well.. Wish you the best

Very bad cramping. But I only remember cramping bad for a few hours. The next day just heavy bleeding, but I don't remember it being horrible. They also gave me Vicodin.

I have not had an abortion, but I have taken two friends at different times and they both had surgical abortions with twilight anesthesia, so neither of them felt anything during the procedure. Afterward, one had cramps comparable to a heavy period (she was 10 weeks) and one had light bleeding and mild cramps (she was 5-6 weeks).
Good luck with everything. If they don't offer pain relief/anesthesia, ask if you can take anything with more pain relief than ibuprofen.

it's slightly painful. They will give you tons and tons of pain meds before the procedure tho. You will get shots down there and it'll be very uncomfortable with the tugging and the dilation. Lots of cramping during and after. Just try to relax as much as possible.
Best of luck mama.

Pain definitely will vary, depending on the sedation you choose, your personal pain tolerance, and the level of calm you keep.
I was told to take 800 mg of Ibuprofen before bed and then again a few hours before my appointment. As far as sedation, I had the choice of Valium or I.V. sedation. I chose the Valium because needles make me nervous and I was already worried, but apparently, that's an uncommon choice. They actually asked if I was sure I just wanted the Valium, so keep that in mind if you're really worried about the pain and have a lower pain tolerance. Mine is fairly high, so I was confident I would be okay.
As much of a wreck I was leading up to it, I was extremely calm the day of my abortion and I think that was what truly made a difference for me. Yes, I was worried about the pain, but I really tried to keep myself focused on the fact that your nerves can really make things worse. My nurse was so surprised how calm I stayed. She actually had tears in her eyes when she told me how strong I was being and how proud she was.. She was what also made the experience better.. She held my hand, looked me in my eyes, and just quietly talked to me.
She and the doctor explained what was happening and made sure I was prepared before inserting the speculum, numbing my cervix, etc. The injection on your cervix definitely pinches pretty badly, but I only had slight cramping during suction and immediately after the procedure. So, the injection was probably the worst part for me personally. That, and the sound of the suction. I can't forget it.
I hope you are able to have a good experience, as hard as the choice is. Just stay calm and focused. You will be okay. Good luck!
