Fetal movement on implanon?!?

posted 1st Oct
I had my son six months ago and had the implanon inserted in my arm at six weeks pp. I did not have intercourse until two weeks after it was inserted as the nurse instructed, and no sexual activity before that. Still I have been experiencing the most bizzare pregnancy symptoms since about a month after insertion. The most chilling is the nightly and frequent fetal-like movements I feel in my lower abdomen that have been increasing over the past two months.
I have taken six pregnancy tests and a blood test, all negative, but still the movements get stronger. I was laughed out of the doctor's office and the hospital, to my utter confusion and dismay. I am having great abdominal pain and I bled every single day for the first four months solid. The bleeding has slowed significantly but just yesterday and this morning I have been getting strong spastic flutters, especially when I lie down on my side or sit still for a minute. I even felt a nudge against my hand quite a few times in the past week. I keep trying to believe it's gas, but it's so hard to credit it to that when the movements are so intense and isolated to one area for any period of time. I feel like I am going crazy. Could I be?

Have you ever heard of phantom kicks? I had them for nearly 2 years after my first daughter. That's probably what you're experiencing. It can be startling at first!

My son just turned a year old and I still get them quite often. I also had implanon before getting pregnant with my son and It always gave me pregnancy symptoms, thats the only reason I didn't like it. But the kicks are normal especially since your only 6 months pp

I have indeed experienced phantom kicks, missing that feeling of pregnancy, but I would not be so concerned if the most frequent "movements" weren't as physical as they are. This has been ongoing and increasing in intensity, eerily on schedule with other symptoms I have been experiencing. I am trying to credit the flutters and rolls to intense muscle spasms. Or perhaps nervous tickings. The phantom kick is a good thing to keep in mind. I love your insight. Thank you. I am still open to ideas and experiences like my own, however.

Yes, that's about how I feel. Absolutely nuts. My mother and my husband don't believe me when I say I can literally "feel" kicks and rolls and spasms. They are quite convincing and to my mind the movements increase in frequency and strength weekly. Along with the other pregnancy symptoms, it is easy to believe without doubts that I could be pregnant--but a negative blood test proves that I am certainly under a delusion. The implanon is said to mimic several of the symptoms, along with making some believe that they are "chemically" pregnant. Maybe this could be what is happening. Either way, I am getting this evil thing removed from my body and taking another test afterwards.

Don't be surprised if you still experience phantom kicks. They don't really have anything to do with BC.

Everyone is telling you they are phantom kicks but I know at least two people who got pregnant while being on implanon after their doctor told them there was no possible way. I'm not saying you are pregnant but maybe you should look more into it.

Have you considered that maybe you're experiencing a hysterical pregnancy?

Finally someone who doesn't believe I am crazy. I too have heard the stories and also know it is possible to have a negative blood test and still be pregnant. If the movement is getting more frequent and I can feel "kicks" with my hands, I know I must either be insane or pregnant. I have had phantom kicks, but these seem must more and stranger. I want to get an ultrasound but my husband won't let me because of the cost. No one believes me. I guess I will find out in February.

Possibly. I certainly must be hysterical if I am feeling kicks with my hands and am not pregnant.

I had phantom kicks that people could feel from the outside after both daughters. If you're that convinced though, it would be a good idea to get an ultrasound. If you are pregnant, the sooner you confirm the better. If you aren't, you might see your symptoms let up. The more you convince yourself you're pregnant, the more pregnant you're gonna feel.

Actually, I don't want to be pregnant at all. I have a six-month-old. And after the blood test, I was absolutely sure I wasn't. After another month, however, the movements went from fluttering to nudges to what feel like actual kicks. It wouldn't bother me at all to feel it if it didn't increase over time like natural pregnancy movements do. Can you go through nine months of increasing symptoms and movement with your memory? I feel it constantly. Even when I don't think about it at all. All of a sudden, I will be talking to someone and feel a very distinct "poke" in a random area in my abdomen, espesially if I bend over or sit down. When I lay down, I feel "kicks" on the side laying against the surface. I try to ignore it and tell myself it's preposterous. I am truly concerned, however, because I don't want to mess around with the life of a baby if there is any possibility I could be. But I can't afford an ultrasound and my husband doesn't want me to get one.
