Breastfeeding & periods

posted 30th Sep
Okay so this is NOT for me but for one of my best girlfriends.

She is 9 weeks post pardum. Saw her OB at 6 weeks & they checked her & said their was zero sign of blood. She EBF's her son, has never used formula, etc.

Now, when you EBF, doesn't this normally mean that you DO NOT have a period during this time?????? She texted me today & asked me if she should call her OB because she started spotting 2 days ago. Wiped, went away. Then today she said that she woke up & there was blood. She put on a pad but it wasn't enough to call it a "period" just enough to where she needed to use something so it didn't get on her undies. She's freaked out, especially since she's always heard what I heard, that you don't get a period while you EBF. And since her OB said there was no sign of blood coming, etc.

Soooo... what do you think it is? Period? Should she call her OB? I told her I'd post on here because you ladies know more about all of this than I do, as I never EBF or went that long without a period!

Thanks

Some women don't get their period while BF'ing but some do, I doubt it's anything for her to worry about.

you still can have periods when EBF'ing. it can just change their frequency and duration. sometimes you go a long time without having one. but, no, EBF does not mean no periods the whole time.

I got a period at 7 weeks postpartum and another at 9 weeks. I was pissed thinking it came back that early, lol. But now I'm 7 months postpartum and haven't had another one.

I EBF both my babies, first one was for 6 months, second one was for 4 months. Both time I bled for 6 weeks straight after the birth, and then resumed my regular cycle. It sucked.... I wanted to be one of those people who don't get their period at all while EFB
