Paragard..maybe TMI

I don't know if this is in the right spot, but I made an effort..lol, So I had my paragard put in Wednesday the 26th. I had a little bit of crmping that day but not much I took an 800mg ibuprofen when I got home from the doctor so I think that's why, and I started bleeding, which I knew was expected, and it was like normal period bleeding for me for the first day and night, and after that it was like, super heavy bleeding, almost like the PP bleeding the first couple days after having LO,and super clotty,but I wasn't having any cramps at all, but between last night and today, my bleeding has slowed down A LOT (which I'm thankful) but I've been having super bad cramps today, I'm just thinking wtf, shouldn't the cramps have been worse when I was bleeding more? lol..I've heard a lot of things about people bleeding forever after having mirena but I haven't heard many bad things about paragard, thats why I went with it.. Can anyone tell me about how long the bleeding lasts? I hadn't had a period since my first PP period August 22, so I was due for a period but it hadn't come yet cause I was breastfeeding..also will paragard make me have a period anyways even if I'm breastfeeding? Cause my period is like my security lol even if I don't like it, I'm glad it comes..

paragard doesn't have hormones so it won't make you have a period. You are probably cramping because it is a foreign body in your uterus. My periods lasted 7-10 days on paragard and the first few days were kind of crampy. I did get super heavy clot filled periods though. Like golf ball sized clots came out.

Yikes. well they weren't that bad, just seemed like a lot. How long did you bleed after having it put in? And did it work out good for you? My old boss had it and said she didn't have any problems with it, that was another reason I chose it, hoping I can be the same and not have any problems.

I got it put in on my period so the normal 7 days. It worked great. I never felt it. My periods were heavier especially the first few months but overall I liked it.

Awesome, I can deal with a heavier period, that won't bother me, I was just really hoping I wouldn't be bleeding for 3 months straight after having it put in..lol. I'm glad it worked out well for you! I feel like I made the right choice now =] SO's ex had mirena and he said he could feel it when they had sex, but I read that they shouldn't be able to feel it, I hope he doesn't cause I just think that would be kind of a damper for him. I'm supposed to go back to my doctor in 3 weeks to have him check to make sure it's in the right place, I know you can check yourself, but he didn't tell me anything about that, do you just stick your fingers in there and feel for the strings? lol

Yes, you just stick your fingers in and feel for the strings. They will eventually coil up around your cervix. I had Mirena and it was awful.I completely believe it is the cause of all the problems I have now and it has been out 2 years.

Alright thanks for the info! Yeah I heard wayyy too many horror stories about mirena, SO wanted me to get that because his ex was on it and he thought it would be the best bet and I was like umm..noo.. One I don't want to get it just because you think I should cause your ex had it, and two, I've heard too many scary things about it,so no thank you. I decided to make my own choice and I still wanted an IUD but just went with paragard since I haven't heard any bad things about it, I'm sorry you had to deal with mirena crap! that sucks! =\
