Applesauce Junkie

posted 30th Sep
Core HATES applesauce. She has never liked it at any point. So I haven't given it to her in years.

She watched Sid the Science Kid last week and they made applesauce on the show. She immediately wanted to make some too

I don't have a recipe, so I just chopped some apple, added water and a touch of cinnamon, and cooked until tender

Then I gave her the masher and she mashed them up

Then she ate it still hot

We've made apple sauce every day for the last 5 days lol. First thing in the morning "Mommy can I make applesauce". Right before bed "Can we make applesauce"

She's turned into an applesauce junkie

Have you tried it? Maybe you can steam some carrots and let him mash them up and eat them like that? Or sweet potatoes?

Sweet potatoes would probably work..carrots...no.

I've been trying with the green veggies more...and it's like, she sees anything that's green, she won't even try it. Except I made a green smoothie once...that went okay.

I hide things in everything

I put spinach and kale in smoothies, prunes and dates into brownies, puree veggies to add to pasta sauce. Nothing in my house can be trusted muahahahaha

When I make pasta sauce, I puree peas, carrots, and green peppers and put it in. Dice mushrooms into the sauce

When I make manwich, I use half black beans, half ground beef. You can't tell the difference AT ALL.

I add purees prunes to brownies or other dark things (like dark breads)

I always double the amount of veggies a recipe calls for (if it says 1 cup of peas, I add 2 cups)

I put spinach and kale into smoothies. You'd never know it was in there

I let Cora help as much as she can or wants to. She eats a lot better when she "makes it herself". And at 4, she is getting really very good in the kitchen

But I think my biggest tip is modeling. If you snack on veggies and ranch, so will your kids. Or conversely, if you snack on crap, so will your kids.

shes 2 so shes not really "helpful" yet in the kitchen.. and she is st ubborn as hell, acts way older than a 2 year old. i never buy smurf snacks either always yogurt, apple sauces etc,no chips. my 4 year old is getting much easier at trying new things thank goodness! i seriously get sooo excited when she eats something different

She won't drink a smoothie? She doesn't eat pasta sauce?

Cora is a terrible eater. She never eats. She'll easily go the whole day on a peanut butter sandwich and an apple and nothing else.

So I've learned ot sneak things in where I can

God that sounds just like Cora. I mean just like her

At this point, her caloric needs are fairly low. And her stomach is the size of her fist so it only' takes a few bites to fill ehr up.

I wouldn't worry unless she starts losing weight, or the doctor says something (like she is anemic from lack of iron or vitamins)

Yea the doctor doesn't seem concerned and she is average in the weight dept. I give her vitamins and recently started buying pediasure which she'll drink some of it.
