Scheduled c section worries

posted 30th Sep
I have a scheduled c section because I had a emergency c section with my first born. Few questions and worries if y'all don't mind giving kind advise and your experiences....

1. Had contractuons with first epidural, will it hurt worse since I won't be contracting?( putting epidural in)

2. I want to breastfeed ASAP, I haven't even been lactating like I was with my first, will it come in after surgery?

3.i have a 2 1/2 yr old who's excited about his brother, but worried I can only carry baby , how do I make toddler feel just as special?!( husband will be gone to boot camp after birth)

4. Any other kind advise pls let me know

I have similar questions as well, since my first was an emergency as well I was out for it and will be awake for this one. In super nervous for the spinal and for being awake for it. My son will be 3.5 but I'm wondering about recovery as well since I will have 2 to take care of instead of one. AND. I wanted to know about breast feeding too since its scheduled for 39 weeks and I'm not sure if my milk will be in. It's like you read my mind

1. I got a great big shot of Duramorph before mine, it hurt but it wasn't terrible. However, it didn't numb me all the way so the "pressure" I was supposed to feel actually felt pretty bad.
2. I got my colostrum/milk just like every other mother did.   I breastfed as soon as I got out of recovery.
3. I don't have two biological kids, but to make my step-son feel special one of us would watch LO while the other would go out with him and have one-on-one time. For us we just made sure to keep saying "I love you" and showing him the same amount of affection.
4. No other advice except good luck, you can do it, and have fun with two!

The spinal isn't as bad as it seems.   Just make extra sure you can't feel them touching you. I felt it, but I was too nervous to say anything and wound up in so much pain. Being awake is awesome. You don't have to see anything because your face is behind a little curtain type deal but you can see the baby right after. The only part I disliked besides the pain was throwing up. They said some women do and some don't and apparently I wasn't lucky.

1. My 2nd section I hardly even felt the needle going in, I thought it was a better experience than the first because I wasn't having painful contractions while they were trying to get the needle in.

2. I started breastfeeding as soon as they wheeled me into recovery. My breast didn't leak at all during pregnancy-didn't have anything to do with the amount of breastmilk i had.

3. Just try and include your oldest in with the baby, like have him pull out a wipe for diaper changes, let him help burp the baby, things like that.

You'll be fine! Good luck!

1. By the time I was on the table, I was so damn nervous that the pain of the spinal didn't hurt at all. Like, a bee sting.

2. Your milk will come in after baby, don't worry

3. It was hard getting my babies to understand that I couldn't pick them up, but we made sure to cuddle on the couch, lots of love, and DH and I would take turns spending one on one time with them. It's a balancing act, but you'll be a pro in no time.

4. Make things easy on yourself! Keep all the baby things you'll need, plus toddler things, plus mommy things right near you so you don't over do it walking. Hope this all helps!

1. I think it all depends on who puts the epidural in. I was contracting like crazy with my first and his spinal was so easy and pain free to put in. With my second (a planned c-section), he tried about 7 times before he got it in. It wasn't the same person as before.

2. I never lactated with either pregnancies and never had supply problems   My first was born at 40.1 weeks, second was born at 38.5 weeks.

3. My oldest was 21 months when his brother was born. It was so hard not to carry him around, so I would sit on the lounge and he would climb onto my lap for cuddles. It was hard but at 3 weeks (naughty i know) was the first time I picked him up, been carrying him around ever since.

4. Try not to worry the night before, just enjoy your night with your other child and relax as much as possible   The anticipation is a killer haha

Good luck
