I know it may sound smurffy, but around here it's definitely typical to call someone that to be insulting their competence. There are lots who are just good people and still do it to be smurfs or make fun of someone. It's almost a taboo thing. People are dicks ;)

Actually I wasn't/am not a teen mom. I just had my first LO (first pregnancy) and I am 25. I was simply stating that when I was that age I considered myself an adult, even though technically there was still a teen on the end of my age.

I don't support that...

Never said I did. Just that I don't agree with taking money away from foster parents...

To all those who say 18 is considered a young mom and not teen, just cause they are graduating high scholl at that age...well about the high schoolers that graduate at 16, just like I did and well everyone else here, since we start school at 3ish its normal to graduate here at 16, 17 the latest.

It doesnt fit...You are a teen till you hit 20 years old....which is why its eightTEEN nineTEEN.

Young mom applies in the same age group for me though. You are a young teen mother. Back in the day you were married at 16 and were having your family started at 17, a young mom? It was normal, why is so different now.?. Once you hit 20 it does not apply in my opinon.

You weren't very specific. I said that because of the people who do abuse the program for money instead of using it for what it is intended for. The purpose of a foster home is to care/provide a safe, healthy environment for these kids who ended up in the foster care program for whatever reason. If say the fosters got so much a month for food, school, clothes, etc already then what would be so bad about regulating that in a different way? You never know until its tried. Making sure they actually got what the gov't paid for in essence? I know it speculative. I never deny that with anything in a debate. Sticking a kid or kids in a foster home just because the state needs to hurry up and place them stinks. I'd rather feel like the foster parents truly care more about the child and not the money, kwim?

Yes, obviously there are good people and bad people. Good foster parents will normally be awesome no matter what and the bad will usually find a way to be a-holes with it.

[snip!] ... without the per diem, we wouldn't be able to keep them. I'm VERY grateful for it b/c I don't want them going to a stranger. "</blockquote>

This is what got me confused. I was talking more about the placement with actual relatives in regards to what was said earlier about taking babies away from mothers just because of their age. If you would have put your 2nd paragraph first I would have thought it was about foster care aid and not about the topic I was focused on.

Someone will always find SOMETHING to insult someone about..whether it be a teen mom, unmarried mother, single mom, a mom who started having children "too late". Someone who has too many kids or someone who has no kids. You just need to learn to not listen to them and keep being the best mom/person you can be.

I wish I could post a pic of what started this. I'm on safari so photo sites screw up. This girl took it to heart even though she was closer to 21 than 19 when her child was born

Agreed.

I was 18, didn't consider myself any kind of mom.

When I hear "teen mom" though, I think about those still in high school.

My SO had his first real job at age 9. He also started drinking and smoking at 9. He paid for his own education from age 10 on. He also helped buy food for the house. He was very responsible. But he was still a kid. Not an adult.

Responsibility and maturity has nothing to do with being a kid, teenager or adult.
