Uh oh....

posted 29th Sep
My 2 yr old woke up this morning and I didnt know he was awake (dont judge...I have 50% hearing loss). He went to the fridge, got a bag of grapes and put them in my 1 yr old's bed. Then he took powder and poured it on the TV, TV stand, carpet, lamp, couch, table. -_- At least my livingroom smells good now, but man! That was a mess to clean.

lol That isnt the worst. Lets see...he has cracked eggs in the floor, put toys in the toilet, poured tea in the kitchen floor, unrolled all the toilet paper, butchered my deoodorant with toys, and....even tipped my 1 yr old's pack n play on it's side and let her out to run around with him. *facepalm* You would be AMAZED at what they can do in a short period of time. I hear them once he gets my daughter up. She is noisy. He is quiet.

Gates dont work for him. He knocks them down.
I clean with vinegar for this reason. I dont want chemicals in my cabinet because I already know how he is.

It'll work for awhile, and by the time the he gets to that age, hopefully he will be better at understanding consequences and not doing naughty things.

He is 2.5. He runs into the gate til it eventually gives and is lying on the floor.

I agree, I'd even use a door knob thing on the inside of his room. It won't hurt him to be awake, playing in his safe room, it could easily hurt him to be roaming the house unattended though.

what kind of gates are you using?

Not the wooden ones. He climbs on the "handle/lock" and breaks it. This one is Step 2? I think. It is plastic lattice and has a handle on the top that you push to hold it secure and lock the gate.

ETA: It's Safety 1st. I will say this...my house is old. Built in 1945 so it has settled which means some of the floors and doorways are a bit uneven. The gate locks, but this could be why it's easier for him to knock it down. The layout of my house is nice. The kids rooms are off toward the livingroom. So is mine. I usually block the dining room off so he cannot get to the kitchen. That means he would have to come in my room and wake me up. Only today....he didnt.

Can you close the door to the room? Gates only work sometimes for DD, and she turned 2 this week. If she really wants out, she will shake, ram, etc. the gate until it falls. I've seen her try to climb them, too. Sigh...

My son opens doors......
Lucky for me, he hasnt figured out the deadbolts on the front and back doors.

ETA: he is going to learn quicker than some kids because I also have a 7 and 4 yr old. He learns from them. They are not home today since they stayed with my mom last night. On days they are home, they let me know when he is into something or if he's awake getting into something.
