Quoting ~*~ Nichole ~*~:"   Either bullsmurf or extremely unhealthy lol. OP you can't always watch them, they can choke in ... [snip!] ... can choke in their sleep, but everyone just has to do their best and be thankful when close calls happen instead of tragedies."

This. And I just remembered something... my daughter is 8, so old enough to move around and talk. A few months ago she was in the dining room, I was in the living room. Maybe 20 feet from me but I can't see her directly. She was in there and laughing, or at least I thought she was. After her not answering "Whats so funny?" I walk in there to see her choking. She sounded like she was laughing. I had NO idea she was choking on her food. It happens to anyone, and if you think you have your eye on your child at all times or should be there at all times... well you have some issues because it's not healthy.

Yeah it happens so fast. My oldest son choked on Oreo's once while we were all at the dinner table. It took us until he started banging his hand on the table to get our attention because before that he was completely silent. Maybe some of this just comes with experience? Idk, but OP doesn't deserve an apology for an accident.

It's happened right in front of my eyes with my daughter before. I was trying to give her a dose of medicine, and when I got it into her mouth her crying was so intense she was in between screams. (You know that long silence you get before the lungs explode?)

It wasn't until her eyes started rolling to the back of her head that I realized she was choking on her medicine.

The thought of that image just makes me want to cry.

I was 21 months old when my sister was born, and when my parents brought her home from the hospital, my dad had to go back to work. He was home for lunch one day, sitting in his chair, and some change fell out of his pocket... Well, after he went back to work, my mama was changing my sisters diaper, and I swallowed a quarter. My mama was in the room with me, less than 5 feet away, and my entire body was blue before she noticed that something was wrong with me. Accidents happen, and sometimes that's what makes people realize they aren't paying as much attention as they could be.

Choking scares the living crap out of me. I'm glad you're son is ok, thank goodness someone was there to catch it. Maybe just tell everyone you're sorry if they think you overreacted but it's your child and his life was in danger so naturally you're going to be defensive. It happens to all of us : )
