would you put a diaper back on him? POLL
posted 28th Sep
My son is 2 yr 7m old. He was first PTd at 24m old, but then his brother was born at 26m old and ... anyway, I recently re-PTd him. He's been in just underwear for 2 weeks now, including naps and out in the car (which we didn't do before). I put him in a diaper at night, mainly because I let him nurse in the morning and sometimes he'll pee after he nurses while we are still "sleeping in" (I use that term lightly .. haha).
anyway, we will be traveling for over 24 hours (from Austria to California) including two long plane rides. The trip is about a month from now. Provided that he continues like he is and is in underwear all day, should I keep him in underwear for the whole trip too or put him back in a diaper just for the trip? I'd still take him to the bathroom, even if he was wearing a diaper, but well .. then we wouldn't have to worry about accidents since sometimes you can't always have a bathroom right when you need one while traveling, you know?

pullups? Thicker undies?
I don't know about a diaper. It could ruin all the progress he's made.

No, definetly not. Just take frequent bathroom breaks, as many as possible. Offer the toiler before he actually needs to pee.

I'd wait and see how he's doing in a month. If he is consistently telling you 'mom I gotta go potty' then I would just leave him in underwear during the trip, making sure we went whenever there was a possibility. If he doesn't have the ability (or desire!) to tell you when he has to go then I would maybe keep him in a pull up. You can get the themed ones and tell him its for the trip and to keep it dry. But you know if he doesn't it's no big deal, just get another one. But I always used to play it up like the pull up was sad that it got wet, lol.
Either way, have a great trip! I'm sure he will have a blast on the planes

that's what we do now and it's going great this time. but I'm just afraid he might have to go when we CAN'T get up, like during take-off or when we're waiting in line at security or something, where we can't get out of line, you know?

oh and I'll be traveling alone with both boys. the younger one will be 5m old, so that complicates things as well. forgot to mention that.

Do your best to take him right beore those types of situations.
Seconds before boarding the plane, take him to pee...
Also, limit his liquid intake.

you will have to take a few sets of underwear and bottoms just in case. i'd throw in a nappy or 2 into the bag just to be on the safe side. if he were to wet himself a few times on the plane you could always decide then to put the nappy on him before you run out of clothes.

I guess we'll see how he's doing in a month and go from there. it would be awesome if he could do the whole trip in his undies, but I don't know if he's up for it yet. I know a lot of the trip, he'll sleep through as well. And having to take the baby everywhere as well just makes it harder for me to always be in the bathroom with him. we'll see. =D

No....all that hard work would be out the window. It only causes confusion in them. My oldest was potty trained starting at 12 months of age, we took a trip with her at 16 months old and it took 3 days to drive and she just wore underwear and thats it.
Bringing them to the bathroom constantly makes the difference. Going back and using diapers and or pullups just doesnt make sense.

Wear the baby to make it easier. Also, take extra clothes just in case. Dont resort back to diapers.

I would but that's just bc my husband got peed on....twice. Even with tons of bathroom breaks and very little liquids. It didn't make for a happy trip lol. If i had to do it again I would have given her a pull up just for the trip and still taken her to the bathroom and all. I don't think one day of a pull up would cause too much confusion but thats just me.

I wouldnt. Journey alwaysss tells me when she has to go potty and if were somewhere she cant go right away I tell her she has to hold it. and she can hold it for like 15 minutes. I think it would ruin the progress.

We had a "long" trip right after Em potty trained. I put a pullup on over her underwear just in case of accidents. That way she felt like she WA wearing her big girl panties (because she was) and wanted to stay dry, but any potential mess would be contained. I fly with my two all the time. It's tiering, but manageable, even post PTing. You can do it!

I have some cloth trainers I could put over his underwear as well. They just feel like thicker underwear, but are more absorbent.
