What is the general rule of thumb with drinking and BF?

My son is 3 weeks old. My 5 year old is going to be at her dad's this weekend. I'd like to treat myself to a drink or two while she's gone.

So what do I do? TIA!

Have a drink, you're fine to BF.

If you have more than one, I'd pump and dump for about 1 hr/drink. I think that's what I recall.

They sell test strips at walgreens to test the breast milk to see if it's safe. I'd recommend those, it surprises you.

All the information that i've read have said that if you drink, to do it right after you feed baby, then not to feed LO again for 2 hours per drink.

I'm in Canada. I don't think we have Walgreen's up here.

It wears off. So u can have a drink but wait a few hours before pumping or feeding. You don't have to dump

No reason to pump and dump it leaves the milk the same way it leaves the blood stream. General rule of thumb is if you are sober enough to drive then you can nurse. Use your best judgement if not its about 1 hour per drink after you stop drinking. Personally I don't trust the test strips after women saying they got a positive read and hadn't drank anything.

I didn't know you could do that! I wonder where I could get something like that in Canada?

Where abouts are you?

I had one drink a few weeks ago. I didn't pump and dump because as a few have already said it leaves your milk just like it would leave your bloodstream. I think some pump and dump for comfort but it's not necessary. I made sure to have my drink right after putting DD to bed so I would have more time before having to feed her.
