You can get IV pain meds, or an epidural. You could also get a pudendal block (numbing shot in the vag), but I don't know how common those are anymore.

If I ever have another baby, I'm going natural. I hated the epidural. It's a personal preference really. If you can breathe through the contractions, and change positions to help with the pain, it's best to avoid the pain meds. You'll be fine, mama. Our bodies were made to do this.

I had both, and I can honestly say, vaginal is 100% better. For me it was an easier recovery, and my child did much better. My son who was born csection, stayed in the NICU for 3 days, then we went home and had to go to Childrens Hospital for a week. My incision hurt for a month, the surgery cause horrible gas pains in my chest, and my insides started falling out.

When I had my daughter naturally, I was better in 4 days, so much better, and she was healthy and happy.

Monday I need to have another C-section, and I am terrified, and anxious. I am crushed, I was hoping and praying for a VBAC.

If I were you, I would without a question choose a vaginal birth.
