Romance Novels D&D

posted 24th Sep
Hypothetical situation:

It's late; a woman is laying in bed and cannot sleep, she glances at her husband but decides not to wake him. He is very tired, she understands that. Her husband had a very hard day, this is true. The wife gets up and picks up her latest romance novel about a vicious, yet handsome pirate and a kidnapped Lady. She curls up on the couch and reads.

Later, her husband gets up and walks into the living room and finds his wife reading this book. He snatches it off of her and throws it in the trash and then demands that she not read those kinds of books because they are filth. He hates the way these books portray men and know that she fantasizes that he is like these men (who are rude and close to abusive to their women).

She tries to explain that she loves him for him and doesn't want him to change, but he doesn't believe her. Look at all those women who wanted their spouses to change into Edward or Christian!! These books do not portray healthy relationships and his wife has no place reading them!

Should she have to stop reading her books just because her husband demands that she not read them??

lols

No. What a person views is their own business. If it's a problem in the relationship, they should sit down and discuss it like adults and come to some understanding. If it is a deal breaker, they should separate. First and foremost, he doesn't have a right to "demand" she not read them. If they bother him he should tell her that and have an adult conversation about how it makes him feel so they can work through these issues.

No, she shouldn't. Fiction is...fiction.

But there have been a couple of disturbing posts here on BG where the wife wishes the husband was more like Christian Grey. SMH.

Absolutely not. I would not be in that type of relationship. My DH is more than welcome to look at porn and I am more than welcome to read it.

As long as there is a healthy understanding of where the loyalty and attraction lie, by all mean go cum on your keyboard.

I talked to this woman who doesn't want her daughter reading Twilight for this very reason. She thinks it romanticizes an abusive relationship, and I can't say I disagree with her.

Blah, most of us let our daughters watch a movie where a young girl is held captive and then falls in love with the evil, cruel monster who imprisoned her (Stockholm Syndrome, anyone?).
