re: Morning after pill

posted 24th Sep
I think its a fine idea. I just wish that they offered protection or birth control before they hand out the morning after pill. I guess I dont really get how they could get away w not telling the parents if the child is a minor.

I'm not sure, I'm waiting for the news to come back on. LOL I believe it will be given by the nurse. At least I assume so.

I think it's a GREAT idea, it will prevent abortions   I do however feel that the parents should be aware of this policy and sign a consent form to allow their daughter to take it if the need arised.

Quoting Aribean:" I don't mind it. Wish more schools would adopt it. Some of these kids are scared to tell their parents ... [snip!] ... stuck from fear. I mean some school dispense condoms and such so it's only fitting for them to dispense plan B at this point."

But there aren't many MEDICAL complications from condoms.. I mean you can have an allergic reaction at best.. Plan B can make your blood pressure drop to the point you lose consciousness.

Schools should be teaching safe sex. Birth control, condoms, etc. NOT letting kids believe that they can have sex unprotected, and then come in and get a morning after pill. All that's showing the kids is that they can do whatever they want, YOLO right?, and then go to school and have that sweet little pill. And start the cycle all over again.

I find it strange because most schools can not even give tylenol but here I can give you morning after pill....condoms are one thing yes for sure school should hand them out...crazy that the only thing parents and teaches are making these kids worry about is having a baby. You can live after having a baby...stds and aids .....not so much

Ohhhhh. THEN, I definitely approve.

Quoting she nan igans:" Do you think the same for abortion? That under 18 they should have parental notification?"

I do. Same for any other medical procedure... a minor cannot and should not be able to sign for themselves.

Yup. All it,s telling them is "oh hey, I have this neat little pill. Go basreback all you want."

How about giving out condoms? I'd be fine with that. Because yes, teens have sex, but lets teach them safe sex

I think there are pros and cons. I wouldn't mind it being available to my children, I would just like to know about it just in case there are any bad side effects or something that my child experiences from it.

I think that's a very broad way of looking at it. I know, as a teen, I never once looked at abortion or the morning after pill as an "out." I never said "Hey, lets not use condoms because I can get a pill!" Would some students think that? Maybe. BUT, allowing access to these items isn't going to encourage unprotected sex, in my opinion.

Parents were reportedly notified of the policy at the beginning of the year and given an option to opt out by signing a form. If parents decided not to sign the opt-out or failed to receive it, the child is able to freely obtain Plan B emergency contraception from a school nurse by pill or injection on request, without notifying parents.

Exactly. I have NO problem with schools handing out condoms. Absolutely none.

Good idea. The fact is teenagers have sex, having this as a confidential option would help a lot of unwanted pregnancy's.
