re: Bible Accountability

That's what we talked about doing. Reading more bible together. We have a study bible. That might be nice.

We were active in church. We count money, I taught Sunday school, we were on some natural church development team, SO ushers, i was in a womens group, all that. But we have an old congregation and nobody wants to take out ideas. We have such an old service and while I do like the traditional service I do not like it all the time. Even out Contemprorary service is from the 80s. SO has been trying to get more youthful stuff in there but they just Turn him down or blow him off. We wanted a praise and worship team but they want nothing to do with that. When they try contemporary stuff it's still old songs with a 80-90s sound. We are young and enjoy young stuff but appreciate traditional. We just want a balance. SO just doesn't enjoy out church and it gets his feelings that they only listen to the older people who have money. Plus dd cries. She never wants to go there. She says it's boring and begs to go to grandmas church. Her church is very Contemprorary and youthful and they have a great children's program. but SO doesn't like her church either. Idk if he's just picky or what. But I respect his feelings.

That's tough. It's so silly to me that churches get so stuck in their ways. I'm fortunate that my church is pretty easy going. We have a praise and worship team( I used to sing on it) and they do a mix of modern and older. Rarely a hymn or anything like that though. Honestly, I think a church that doesn't listen to it's congregation is a church that won't last. Eventually all those older folks will be gone and then what. KWIM?
And I can understand honoring your SO's feelings. In my relationship with my DH though, if he didn't want to go to church, I'd still go. It's important to me that my children go...even if sometimes, I don't feel like it.But having said that, you do have to do what works for your relationship. And your SO might be upset if you went with out him.

Hi! Welcome!

That's an easy place to fall into. I think all of us know all too well how that goes. We're glad you're here!

I'm sorry! Have you guys considered looking to see if God is simply leading you elsewhere? I'm not a huge fan of "church hopping" (or whatever you want to call it) but I'm a huge believer in finding the right fit, I just think it makes all the difference. We're not meant to be "lone christians".

I have two prayer requests

1. My husband's boss found out he has colon cancer. This man has bent over backwards for my husband in the past, and helped pull us out of a very very difficult financial time. They think they've caught it in time, and are going to do immediate surgery to try to remove it and ensure it hasn't spread. Colon cancer can be very aggressive, so we definitely need prayer. He's also not a christian, but he told Chris the other day that he went to church after the diagnosis. He's considering coming with us sometime, so prayer that God uses this to work on his heart & that He will give Chris the right words to speak.

2. My best friend since I was a kid is not a christian, but we talked a lot about faith yesterday. She basically had the opinion that "If you do more good than bad, you're good." So, we talked a lot last night about how it has nothing to do with us...etc etc. Prayers for her to truly see God, and experience His grace/forgiveness would be awesome.

Sorry I just wrote you guys a book! How are you all? Anything going on that needs prayer?

Just thought I would share this link-
My pastor's wife, Amy, is doing a 10 week class called "The Dating Trap". It's about the pitfalls of our current societal dating culture... good stuff if you have or may eventually have a daughter. Every Tuesday they add the newest audio recording to the church's website, as well as the note sheet we get when we go.

Thanks. I'll check that out.

DH and I have recently been talking about our opinions of dating a lot. We "dated" so we don't want to be hypocrites, but we also really kind of understand the quote "dating is practicing for divorce." So, I'm not sure where we stand on it right now.

It's tough. With homeschooling I do hope to have less of the world's influence on the kids at that age, to where they'll understand the point/value in "dating". Hopefully they'll just make the choice to wait until they're ready to really be serious about it  ...in a perfect world, right?

Yeah we still go on the days we count money. And my dd goes with grandma sometimes. I just don't like that she cries out church is boring. I'm not gonna
Make her hate church so we let her go with my Mom when we don't go.

Yeah we talked about it but they're all so far away. We don't know yet If we're ready to Jane denominations or Synods. We're elca Lutheran and would have to switch to Missouri or wisconsin(which were not allowed in cause were not married). So we are just kinda seeing where god leads our hearts. So far we haven't had any strong feelings as to where we should go. We started going to our church about 4 1/2 yrs ago but just this past yr SO is not liking it anymore. There's a lot of focus on how much money you can Hve and less on the time you put in. We used to be putting in our time weekly there but the board did a presentations and made us feel like our volunteering wasn't good enough. It kind of hurt Our feelings.
