CIO? Sleep training?

posted 23rd Sep
If you do either of these, how did you start and at what age?
I wouldn't even know where to begin.

I honestly cannot take much more of getting up 3-4 times a night. If I was a SAHM, maybe, but that's not in the cards for me.

I'm not looking for a debate on whether this is right or wrong. I realize that plenty of people disagree with the CIO method and that's ok. I truly believe that my child is waking up throughout the night purely out of habit.

Any links or advice?

Child's age is a huge factor.
I recommend 'The No Cry Sleep Solution'

I would exhaust all options before resorting to CIO honestly, especially so young. I Breastfeed and co-sleep with my young toddler which means I don't have to get up at all at night, which makes being a full time student easier. I know that doesn't work for everyone though.

I did the CIO method with my son around 9 months, it didn't take very long.

It really depends on the child. My oldest we did CIO from 6 months on. Took about a week before she consistently started going to sleep without a fight. She only ever made it to the 10 min mark before falling asleep. My youngest is almost 8 months and while I will let her "fuss it out" once the crying stops thats it. There is no crying it out for her as she will cry until she makes herself sick. Its not the right method for every kid. What is your nighttime routine like? Where is he sleeping? When he wakes up how do you get him back down? Does he require nursing or a bottle? How long is he up? Not every kid is ready to sleep through the night at 8 months.

I dont really remember but i think first i would look for signs to make sure he was sleepy like rubbing his eyes, yawning, being super whiny ect.,then i would put him in his crib in my room with a bottle. He would cry for a little bit and i would just pat his back, kiss him and tell him it's bedtime and give him his bottle again if he dropped it. After a few days i would just put him in his crib with his blanket and bottle and he would go right to sleep.

My DD is 8mo and at times she fights her sleep. She's extremely tired but will fight it. If she could have it her way, she would want me to hold her 24/7. Wraps or carriers doesn't suffice, she wants to fall asleep in my arms. So, I will put her in her crib to sleep. As soon as I put her in there, she cries. I make sure she's changed and has a bottle. I will sit there, let her see me, as she works it out. She will cry and scream but she see's me the entire time and I'm making sure she's ok. When she starts to calm down, I will hold her and cuddle her to let her know she's ok, give her a bottle and I lay her back down and she falls asleep within 5mis without a fuss. Idk if that's considered CIO but it works for us. Hope this helps!

My son is exactly like your daughter. I will absolutely try this for a while first and then go to the next step.

I started it at 6 months, I guess I got lucky because she would only cry for a minute or two.

But if you're not as lucky, I think you're meant to go in every 5 minutes or something like that.

Meh, good luck.
