Is this wrong?

To get a replica dog & let your kid think it's the same dog? My 3 year old is heart broken & my Mom wants to replace the dog. The dog is still alive, but family members won't give him back, they've been taking care of him for me for 7 months bc of certain things happening & things happening in my family & me being away from home out of state on & off & I have put my feelings aside as much as it hurts & am letting them keep the dog bc I don't want the dog involved in a war zone. My son has asked quite frequently for the dog to come home & says how much he misses him for the past 7 months. He has a very good memory. So my question is would you get a look alike dog to make your kid happy & let them think it was the dog? I feel like it would be wrong & don't want to replace the dog bc I love him very much, but I am starting to wonder if I should let my Mother buy it for my sons happiness?

I would think your LO would figure it out. I honestly think it's wrong, but I would get another dog and not tell LO that it is the same one.

Yea that was my thought on it...maybe new dog but different name & etc, but he saw another dog that looked similar in a pic & thought it was him, but I think he would figure it out while interacting with the new dog. Plus I still feel it would be wrong.

Kids can tell the difference emotionally the most.

I tried doing that with my boys guinea pig and their cat...they knew almost instantly it wasn't the same animal, different temperment, etc.....if your mom wants to get you a new dog I'd say go ahead...maybe she can take LO and let him pick out one he likes.

My mom replaced my Alaskan Malamute when I was little because my dog ran away. So I had a replacement for 3 weeks. 2 days before they found my dog (someone found him and took him in) the replacement ran away lol. Here I thought it was the same damn dog my entire life and that he just liked to run away! I just found out earlier this year about this lol.

I would just get another dog and tell him it's a different dog. Maybe his brother or sister, if they look alike? I would just explain as best I could that your dog has a new family that loves him, but this puppy needs a family to love him/her

O wow that is funny. Apparently my Mom did this with my hamsters & I never new. Apparently the one I found dead was like #4 or #5 & I never knew bc she kept replacing them before I knew it was gone.

Thank You. That is a good idea. I have been at a loss of what to tell him. Like why he can't come home. Poor kids frog died last week too & I replaced it, but he knew a difference.

I would just tell him the truth that the dog has to stay where he is and tell him that he will be getting a new dog and he can pick it out himself. Take him to the store and let him choose his own puppy and he will be happy u did!

Thanks. Hopefully this makes him happy. The dog has been in his life since birth...used to snuggle up to my belly while I was pregnant & he would kick. The dog would also sleep next to him in bed. Was in his life 24/7 for 2 1/2 years.
