Honestly... if you're talking about the bump... that looks like a fresh mosquito bite IMO.

Looks about the size of a belt to me? I honestly don't really know though, that's just what crossed my mind first.

I didn't even notice the bump! It looks like a red band across his back to me, that's what I commented on.

Looks like a reaction to a bite or he bumped into something? Did you ask his dad what happened?

it looks blurry i thought he had a farmers tan...lol

I know his past so it's been worrying me. He goes there again tomorrow so I will look over his body tonight before bed than again when he comes home after the visit. I know its not a bite because it was the width of his back.

From the angle it is hard to tell. Either a bite or a welt from being hit

Hm, I missed that welt at first. Looks too small to be a belt to me, and trust me my ass saw plenty of belts as a kid. Belt whoopins leave a thick 3 inch wide welt... That looks like an inch... could his clothes have rubbed against him or something?

Yeah, now that I look again, he's a kid so smaller that what my initial reaction was.

Never has before, I will just keep an eye out on him.

Looks like a carpet burn as if he's slid down the stairs and bumped his back. When my 5yo falls down stairs he always gets a red band like that. But I'd make sure he wasn't hit with something. I know it's easy for me to say but try stay calm and give him plenty of hugs xxx

My first reaction to the picture, without reading your description, was that he had been beat or hit repeatedly.   Hopefully that isn't the case...
