Breastmilk is the optimal food for your baby. Skin to skin is very important to increase nursing & weight gain. the fatty hindmilk isimportant also! If baby falls asleep after 5 minutes, try nursing on the same side when she wakes up. Skin to Skin will really help.

Thanks everyone, We did a lot of skin to skin last night and it worked nicely to keep her awake, So did the wet rag if she did start dozing off and not feeding. She was also very awake last night.

I dont think we will be doing the Neosure, I dont want to do any formula at all unless it becomes 100% necessary which at this point its not, I wanna stick all the way with the boob, The only reason she isnt gaining is because she isnt feeding long enough because she is so sleepy during the day.

Have faith in your body's ability to nourish your baby. you were made for this! You are AWESOME! Contacting your local La Leche League & attending meetings may help you. The mother to mother support is priceless.

Also the book 'Kangaroo Care - The Best You Can Do to Help Your Preterm Infant' by Susan M. Ludington-Hoe, Ph. D. with Susan K. Golant may be helpful.

Hmm my baby was born 37 & 4. And she pretty much does nothing but sleep. I asked her pedi about it and she said usually the first couple weeks they pretty much just sleep. So its probably ok, hopefully you can get her woken up enough to eat! Sometimes mine wont finish her little bottle she will just pass back out

I'm having the same problem =[ We're still in the hospital because he wont gain weight.

the nurse told me that elliott isnt getting the calories he needs which is why he's so sleepy, so now we have to use formula right after breastfeeding.

That's the start! Assuming she keeps doing better, there's no reason you should! It's not like she was THAT far under in the first place- some babies are just slower to start!

Both my boys feed for only about 5mins, 10 max on one side every 2-3 hours I couldnt get them to feed anymore than that at all.

Maybe pump a bit till you let down then try and feed her, that way she gets the fatty hind milk?

Good luck!
