Ok dd is 10 and has a class business project to do. We have come up with an idea for it all ready.
They have to make something and sell it at school. It was to be individual or a group effort and she wanted to do it alone.

So her idea was to make canvase paintings of cartoon characters and sell them. Now my question is.......how do you trace a picture with tracing paper on to a canvase?
I have asked a simular question befor but got no help.

And then she will paint the rest in. They will be something like this but smaller ones, and how much would you let your child buy one for? It will be quicker to trace the image then to free hand a whole bunch...kwim?

That's easy - transfer paper. Use it to trace the design onto the transfer paper then lay the paper down on the canvas and draw over it again.

I use a light box. You can make one pretty easily.

I'm going to try to explain this the best I can, but it's easier to just show so I might make a video for you.

Draw/trace a picture the size of the painting you want.

On the back of the paper, cover it completely in graphite where the lines are on the front. Make dark lines and use a firm side to side motion when "coloring" the graphite into the back.

Lay the paper over the canvas.

Draw on the lines you drew HARD. Like, REALLY hard.

The graphite on the back will transfer to the canvas from the force of your pencil going over the drawing.

It will be lighter, but it's definitely easier than freehanding it every time.

This is the cheap-ass version of the transfer paper talked about in the first post lol.

I was gonna explain it exactly how you did but decided it would just be easier to say transfer paper.

Ya but can a 10 yr old do it? It has to be done all by herself, no adult help at all. I know what you are talking about thou, I have seen it done befor. That will take alot of time. For her, I just figured tracing it is easier then free handing it.

She can definitely do the transfer paper then. It's more expensive because you have to buy the transfer paper but it gets the same results.

Mhmm! It doesn't take much time at all, and you can use the same picture over and over. I learned it when I was in the second grade.
