What is the best relationship advice you have ever been given in your life?

For me My father told me when I got married that I should ALWAYS asume that the things my husband says or does are not intended to upset or hurt me. This has made such a difference in my marriage.

How about you ladies?

Its okay to argue and its usually not the best relationship if you dont argue atleast once in a while. My dad told me that. Its like you are not showing true feelings if you dont disagree once in a while.

the best advice actually came from my guy when we first met, he said ' don't do anything you wouldnt want me to do" and its worked out great. Recently my friend in R.I. wanted me to go to a stripclub (before i was prego0 and I mentioned it to him and he said "You can do whatever you want, im not telling you what to do, but dont do something you dont want me to do" and I thought about him at a strip club and got this sick hurt feeling inside 9cause im ajealouse person) and decided against going....but its true do unto others...

I agree entirely. I woud think myhubby was being superficial if we never disagreed.

compromise. if there really was the "perfect match" then no one would have their individuality....

and having great sex is key in marraige. if there is no sex-its time to do some evaluations... unless of course you are pregnant-your hormones are going to be whack....... (this does not mean having a lot of sex, just great sex when you get it...)

there will begood years and there will be bad years... the bad ones make the good ones even better.

and never give up. if you are both willing to work really hard-then the two ofyou canaccomplish any thing

all of this advice was given to me by people who have been married for50+ years--(my hubbys grandparents)

My mom has told me"choosing my arguments" make for a happierlife. Getting mad over things that really dont matter are not condusive to a relationship.

My mom told me that even though my family is always my family my hubby(and kids now) comes first. They should be the most important thing in my life. She also said that we should move far enough away for the first 6 mths to a year so that family can't butt in too much when they're not needed(and/or wanted). If I would call venting she would listen and then just tell me to go talk to my hubby, still does to this day now that I think about it
