No one said it would be so.... lonely.

posted 20th Sep
Obvi single parents have bigger problems but...

One thing no one told me about becoming a single parent is how I would lose most of my friends. How the same people who would push for me to just leave BD alone, would also leave me alone. How I would wish people would visit.... or be available or whatever.

The thing about having a DH/SO is, you probably don't mind the absence of friends as much -- after all, in most cases, he is your best friend.

But here I am... me, myself, and I. Lonely as ever. Everyday as monotonous as the one before.

I look forward to the birth of my boy but also realize that life will never be the same. I long for the past but still try to focus on the future.

I dont know. Maybe today is just a particularly down day.

It's rough, mama. Have you maybe looked into mom groups on meetup?

(Also, where in NY are you? I need some friends.   )

Yeah, all of the single-mom groups require the baby to actually be born lol.. so when he arrives I will sign up.

I'm in NYC -- hours away from syracuse

True... I guess it's part of the grass is greener syndrome -- I just wish I had someone.

I found that when baby was born meeting up with other moms was a life saver! You can get started meeting other moms now by joining a prenatal yoga or prenatal fitness class. You can go to your local la leche league chapter before baby is born to learn about feeding and meet other moms. Does your OB or midwife have any community resources to refer you to for mom & baby drop in centres or play groups? Also try local libraries, local recreation centres or gyms, and local elementary schools often do mom & baby programs so check those out.

Being a new mom can be very lonely - especially if your friends aren't having babies at the same time as you. The good friends will stick around but others will disappear when they realise you can't go out for dinner at 7pm anymore.

That would've been perfect. I live in Manhattan but use to live in westchester (Scarsdale)!
