re: First Time Miscarriage -- need advice

Thank you, P

There was red blood & clots last night (& during pelvic). The doctor said cervix was closed (which they thought was a good sign). Since last night... it's been heavy, dark brown discharge w/small, stringy clots. Not much red now. I've read horror stories online about women going through this as long as weeks or a month, so I just am unsure what to think.

I've enjoyed the knowledge shared here during my time in the April Due Dates and other forums, so I thought this would be the ideal place to get info from those who had a lot of wisdom & experience to share. I appreciate your help. I think I might ask for time off w/out pay when it starts in full --- I just can't imagine taking care of my residents while passing a miscarriage --- I don't think working while in pain is safe for either of us

I agree.

If your bleeding is stopping/slowing significantly, you may be done. My last miscarriage was like that. Over and done fast and dirty. Bleeding after was minimal. If bleeding doesn't pick up tomorrow, ask doc for an ultrasound to see if everything is out---I'd bet it is if you we're having clots And such already.

Good luck and sorry for your loss

Actually, you can work thru the m/c physically. I had one when my twins were 14 months old. I did my normal routine with them. We walked a mile daily (I had a double stroller) and I did all my household chores. I was estimated at 7 weeks with that one.

Emotionally, is a different story. If you feel like you are going to struggle emotionally with this, take a few days off. Process and grieve if you need to.

sorry for your loss. sometimes a D&C is necessary & sometimes not. ive had both situations several times & it really depends on what your doctor thinks is best. sometimes it cannot pass by itself which can lead to other complications that in one of my cases was worse. so i would just do whatever your doc tells u too. again im really sorry

I agree. The earlier in pregnancy the faster and almost "less noticeable" they are.

We aren't "religious" either. We prefer to call it Spiritual.

We are catholic and I just can't get behind every thing the church wants me to believe so I just hold on to the idea of jesus and the higher power.

Your dad's are holding your baby and you will see your baby again.

My 4 and 6 week losses were basically heavy periods with extra cramps. 9 weeks was really bad for like 1 hour before and half hour after passing baby...

The other 3 were definitely worse based on gestation!!!

Like I said, OP, If you've had clots, you're probably done with the physical part!

Thanks, NotTellin' --- I was also raised in Boston as a Catholic (and my mom still goes to church every week, she finds comfort in it, so be it). For me, the same as you --- don't agree with how things are presented and what we are told and never felt allowed to have a personal relationship w/Jesus --- almost as if he was a "friend of a friend" --- like we're only allowed a relationship via the priest.

My husband is Christian, born & raised here in Kansas... I am sometimes envious of how close most people here feel to their spirituality. In my three years here, I am still working on that. We go to his church (and I love our pastor) --- and we should go more than we do. My mother is just happy I have found my faith again, so she's unconcerned that it's through another church. The man above is still the same

Thank you for your words <3

Thank you slayera (and the rest). I feel a lot better about my options and what I should ask the doctor tomorrow. I'm going to try & get some sleep and see what tomorrow holds.

Thank you all for your encouragement!

this is exactly What I did and thought with my miscarry ! it's uncanny but I said the same thing to my hubby spiritually !

I'm sorry for your loss, mama. Miscarriages suck - for lack of a better word. I've had 3 of them myself, and fortunately, they've all passed naturally. No D&C needed, and NO infections. I wish you the best, and if you ever need to talk, I'm here.

I miscarried naturally, but ended up having a D&C too. so just keep in mind that even though you might miscarry naturally you still might have to have a D&C to get everything out that may not have come out.

I'm sorry for your loss, and that you've had to experience this.

I miscarried naturally, I didn't want anyone scooping around inside of my uterus.

I agree that unless the DandC absolutely necessary I would refuse. It's a terrible thing to have to go through and I'm so sorry for you! Hope things are on the uphill swing!
