CERVIX BEING TWO SMALL

posted 22nd May
Well today i went to the hospital because they said that my cervix was small. they did some studies and told me that i was lucky that they cought this problem soon but that i still have to wait until i'm 3 months along to have an operation done on me so i won't miscarrige. i am really scared because i still have about two weeks to wait and i really want to have my baby. i've never had any operation done so the thought of getting operated really scares me i've also never had a miscarrige so that would really hurt me if any one has ever gone trough this please talk to me.

Too small being too thin?? Your cervix should be about 4cm thick, and sometimes if you have what is called an incompetent cervix, it thins out to 2 or 3 cm... which is not good because as the baby grows, it cant withstand the pressure and dialates early, causing a very preterm baby that usually can't survive. I imagine that's what you're talking about, as that's the only thing about a cervix that can be too small and cause you to lose the baby..? As far as treatment, they usually go in and put a stitch called a cerclage around your cervix to keep it from opening too soon, and then take it out once you reach 36 weeks so it can prepare for labor. I have had friends who needed a cerclage and go on to have perfectly normal labors and births once they take the stitch out. From my understanding it is not a major surgical operation, and is not too painful. Good luck and I'm glad they caught it before it caused any problems!

Do you mean your cervix is too thin and you have to a cerclage? I personally have a thinner cervix due to a previous surgery, but luckily it didn't affect my pregnancy to the point where I had to get a cerclage. However, before I knew that it wasn't going to affect my pregnancy, I read a lot about the cerclage and it seems pretty simple.

Its a surgery in which you get a spinal and they sew your cervix up. I think the recovery is pretty minimal. Depending on your dr. it will probably be removed around 36-37 weeks when it is safe for your baby to born. The sucky part is I think most of the time you have to be on bed rest until the cerlage is removed.
