Inside dog

posted 22nd May
Has anyone experienced having an inside dog and bringing home the baby? Is it a bad idea? I've had a dachshund for 3 years and she's always been my baby, but my finance is worried that she'll be jealous and is scared to bring her around the baby. Does anyone have any advice?

work on giving her less attention. You should never abandon a dog just because you are having a baby (not saying that was your intention though)

I agree, i've herd ofdogs that got protective over a new born, and i haven't herd of any getting jelous. My old bf's dog, got so protective over the new born that was brought into their home, that he wouldn't let anyone he didn't know touch the baby at all.

I am about to experience this first hand in about hopefully 8 weeks. We have a llapso/shitzu mix and she is my husband's baby. I am really worried about how she is going to act, I know she is going to be super jealous but the only thing we really can do is monitor her very very closely and let her know that the baby is not her enemy or her play toy. Some people have said to get something you have washed so the doggie can get adjusted to the new smell that will be introduced to them

We just show our dog (a doberman) that our children are indeed, higher in pecking order than him by having him lie on his belly in a submissive position and placing the kid over him and having them rub his belly.. We've never really had a problem with our dog being jealous though because we got him when our oldest was a baby so he grew up with the kids..

I have 2 inside dogs.....a big one and a small one. Of course they will be jelous at first but I bet they will be protective of our baby. And ive been working on socializing them both with small chilren (most of our friends have babies and todlers) so we are hoping that helps.

we have a toy poodle and we have always treated him like a baby and called him a baby. we did the whole bringing home something of the baby's before we brought her home so he could smell it and we did everything all the websites told us to do to get him ready for the baby. we even got resources from the vet b/c she knows how much i have always babied him.
we always called our daughter the baby and he used to come running and he still does sometimes when we talk to her and she's now 3. but he always wanted held when we were holding the baby and they are both so jealous of each other it's kind of comical. even still now if one is getting held the other tries to get the other down but he would never bite her.
he liked her a lot more when she started eating real food though lol. she shares everything with the dog and has since she was 6 months old.
