This can't be CPS worthy...??

DON'T QUOTE

I'm really shocked, CPS was called a few days ago on a past friend of mine and apparently there's an ongoing investigation now. I was just visited by a social worker who was asking me a bunch of questions about what I "supplied" to the family. I gave her some stuff... like toys, pans, utensils, bedding and made a few VERY minor repairs- like putting switch plates on the light switches and on one outlet.
I knew her kids didn't get much, because they don't have much money, and when they do it's spent on the wrong kind of things. (Like a tv, Sensa weight loss products....)
The 3 kids all had maybe 3-4 outfits each, with no pajamas. They wore the same things for 2 days before it got washed. But they were never noticeably dirty. Her house is absolutely spotless, swept and cleaned every day. They were always fed, home schooled very well and happy.
Now she's being called out because apparently she has never taken the kids to the doctor, and wasn't able to supply things on her own... the things that I gave her are basically getting her into trouble with CPS.

I just don't see how this is worthy of the intervention that is occurring. Is this really the kind of thing CPS gets involved with? One of the reports was that there was no "Defined sleeping space" for the kids. Two share a bed and the other sleeps in a pack n play.
It's just pretty surprising to me that this is happening to her.

CPS has to follow up on complaints like this to determine whether the childrens needs are being met.

if she is simply poor, and providing for her children the basic necessities, I don't think she will have a problem/

I mean, PERSONALLY, I think there are way more important things for CPS to be concerned about. But if they can't provide each child a place to sleep and some clean clothes to wear, then they may just not be fit to continue to provide for them.
maybe they need to alter their priorities and get on their feet.

Well legally they need clothes, food, a defined place to sleep and running water.
If they don't have any of those things, an investigation may be opened... as well as if there is strong evidence of abuse/neglect or the parent is quite obviously using drugs.

Sounds to me like yes it is worthy. I mean if you're spending your money on other things while your kid doesn't even have pjs and only 2-3 out fits you have a serious problem and deserve what is coming to you.

And the oldest child just turned 5, he shares a bed with his sister who is 2 1/2. I don't think there's any laws in DE about that, though.

I personally don't think a 5 year old boy should be sharing a bed with his sister.

If anything, the parents should just be co-sleeping with one of them...

They also have to have separate rooms for different genders. Them sharing a bed is not ok (legally)
If they had their own beds, but wanted to sleep together fine. But that's bad. How old is the one in the pack n play?

I was wondering what would be considered a "defined space." There are two bedrooms dedicated to the children, but there's no dressers or decorations. Just a mattress and box spring in one room with a small shelving unit for toys and the pack n play in the other with one of those "cubicle" shelves.

Ok, thats why

typically, you need to provide separate sleeping rooms for different sex kids once they are no longer an infant.

my kids don't have pjs. Why waste my money on them when they refuse to wear them?

Really?

I don't see a problem at that age.

My kids shower together.

He just turned a year old in June, he has his own room because he doesn't sleep on the same schedule as the other two.
