Child support stuff

posted 19th Sep
This is really ridiculous. I feel bad asking for child support... My situation is this: me and my babys dad have been boyfriend/girlfriend for 3 years. We don't live together, me and baby live with my parents cause I'm 18 almost 19 and at Uni.. So I don't work. baby's daddy works full time.. And he's here sometimes but he doesn't really look after our baby. I have sole custody as I'm the full time carer.
Why do I feel so ridiculous asking for child support! it's his baby too.... I guess I feel guilty cause he's my boyfriend... I'm so silly..

If he is your boyfriend then just ask for money when you need help buying something?

My mum thinks that it could be a problem in the future though.. Like of we don't stay together.. And where I live you have to set up child support arrangements within 13 weeks of the baby being born..

Well you and the dad are together, so I don't see why taking him to court would be a good idea. I actually think that would cause issues, don't you? I would simply just ask for help when you need some cash, and if there comes a time when he starts to refuse to help you out with your son financially that is when you take him for child support. Other wise right now it's like, "I need these documents to make sure you pay for your kid because my mother and I don't trust you, I love you so much hon!"

I will be getting child support from my SO, I dont want it though
I am on welfare for the time being until I get a job, which will be very soon. And they made me do child support, I can't stop it at all until we live together or are married. I had to get on welfare so I could pay my rent unforunently or I wouldn't have gotten on it. We plan on moving in with one another when my lease is up in 8 months though.
My situation is different though because my SO pays for anything I need for our daughter or even myself. So I feel terrible he has to pay child support now.
He basically pays for whatever I ask besides my rent and I would never ask for that much money.

Any one else reckon child support/ single parenting and everything else is so friggin complicated.
It's just hard.. He used to pay for a lot of stuff when it was just us.. But he isn't really around much with the baby and it's like he thinks giving him a cuddle every now and then is parenting.. I know it hasn't been very long since bub was born, but that's just what's happened since he's arrived.. Hopefully he helps ou more I guess. I'm probably overly hormonal and fustrated from lack of sleep.

How is it single parenting if you and the father are still together?

If he's not pulling his weight and you're still with him, that's not his fault. You have to assert yourself and put your foot down, or leave his ass. It's that simple. If he's willing to date you but not be emotional or financial support for his child when he has a job, then he's not worth it. But if you're with him, and he's coming to see the baby and helping you out with it, you're not a single parent. At all.

We're not 'partners' according to law cause we don't live together, arnt married, etc
And he comes around every now and then but doesn't really help. That was the whole point.

He's a good guy.. Just useless at parenting I suppose.. He has some growing up to do. But I fell in love with him before our baby came along..
