Lol. The government is not there to pay for your "conveniences" and if there are "no jobs" in your town, then go outside of your town to find a job.

I go overboard about any and all deserts. If I were on food stamps I would not go overboard and being able to splurge on my family (and my hobby) would be a huge motivator.

It matters as some of those cakes are ridiculously expensive and a luxury. When you buy the stuff to make yourself your dollars go much further.

It's much easier to splurge and buy expensive things when you don't have to work for it!

I'm currently living with my parents since my ex just up and left me to raise 2 kids by myself.. And my mother uses my food stamps card to supplement the food costs, which is fine by me. But she decided to order separate cakes for my sister and my aunt even though we were having ONE party.. And spent like $70-$80 of foodstamps on cake! (I found this out later after I got my card back). I was lividddddddd.

Yup. If she was limited on time she could have bought 2 boxes of Betty Crocker and the frosting and had 2 decorated cakes for $10-15.

Save that 50 a month you are spending on a cell phone and whatever other luxuries you have and move. Otherwise you are basically saying you will never be able to support yourself unless someone hands you a job. You have to make an effort. If there is no work where you are common sense says to move somewhere else! If I couldn't find a job to support my family here I would move. I moved to a different state where it was cheaper away from my whole family in order to get in a better situation. I guess I could have stayed and live off the government, I'm just not that helpless.

You can't keep doing the same thing and expect different results.

I've been toying with the idea of doing just that. Moving to a completely different state with a cheaper living cost. I can actually work anywhere as long as I have internet, so availability of jobs doesn't even matter. This actually helps knowing somebody else did it. Thank you.

It's not easy! I am very close with my family and I moved when my first child was a week old   but we moved so we could provide a better life for our children. I'm from the Bay Area and living costs so much there!! I am very happy to say that we are in a much better situation now and will be moving back next year

That's awesome! I'm originally from Cali also and would loooove to go back but it's soo expensive. I've got to look into a few more things to make certain that the cost of living is truly cheaper, but I think I'm gonna do it. My kids are 6 years old and 7 months old.
