Wipe My Butt (poop talk)

When did your kid start to wipe their butt with help? And when were they good enough to be trusted to get clean on their own?
We haven't been too successful in this area.

She started wiping her butt when she was potty trained with help until she was about 3. I checked it for a while and once I saw she was doing a good job of it herself I stopped helping her.

Oh man, butt wiping was the worst for me. I preferred changing diapers.

I think I finally let my son go on his own around 3 1/2. He's pretty anal (har har) about getting all the way clean so it wasn't really an issue once I let him go.

Seriously? Both you ladies are talking before age 3 and 4. We're going to be 5 in a few months  Any tips?
TMI but right now he wads the tissue up and does the reach around- but smears it through his crack and up his back. Then I have to take a wet wash cloth or something and wash him clean. Seems as though he's a bit old to need help, right?

Would he do better with flushable wet wipes?

I was buying those but we are on a septic and he flushed almost a whole container a couple months back... I guess I could just keep 1 or 2 in the pack for him and replace them as needed until he gets the hang of it.   Thanks for the idea!

This. My step-daughter is over 4 and didn't know how to wipe her own butt at all. Didn't even try. So when she came to stay with us, I bought the Huggies toddler wipes for her and showed her how to do it. I pretty much just instructed her to wipe, fold, wipe, and then use a new wipe if the wipe isn't clean yet. I watched her twice and after that she was fine. No skidmarks or anything lol. Her mom was shocked when she went back home and could wipe her own butt lol.

That was probably a very welcome surprise lol!!

I just told her she needed to wipe until there wasn't anymore poop on the toilet paper. She got it pretty quick.

I wish! He makes a mess! He's been potty trained for over a year and half. I would have thought he'd have this down by now.

LOL it must be a boy thing because even as men, they don't exactly wipe the way we women do.
