Mostly sweets... I hardly ever want chips or anything like that... I love fruit and juice, but we were at the store last night and most of the juices have twice as much sugar as sodas! BUT, I know some sugars are better for you than others soo... and on the fruits... only fresh or the kind in the plastic cups (in their own juices not the syrup) ok? We're southern and potatoes and corn are a big part of our dinners but I know I should start cutting those down quite a bit, but what are good sides that my kids will also like? They're not picky, I just go brain dead at the grocery store and can't think of anything besides the usual taters and corn =)

If u can some how stray away from regular baked potatoes and lean more towards sweet potatoes.. those are definitey a lot healthier for you! The only juices you should drink are the ones that say 100% natural juice, either apple, orange, cranberry, or pineapple. I would stick with fresh fruits. Canned fruits or packaged fruits have a lot of preservatives in them. Side dishes you can get canned veggies (sodium free), that's another thing you should avoid.. salt, it retains water. So canned veggies that I buy are - green beans, wax beans, corn. But any veggie that u like u can buy canned sodium free. When I'm on my strict diet I typically only eat veggies and protein for dinner, so I cant really tell u what kinda carbs u can get because I only eat carbs during the daytime. But I know ur little ones need carbs. Stick with brown rice, sweet potatoes, whole wheat or whole grain pastas with tomato sauce on it. Buy dinner rolls too, but make sure they are whole wheat or whole grain. Hope this helps.

Does anyone know when you can start exercising PP?? I am only 2 weeks PP now & am itching to get to it. However, I don't want to cause anymore damage to my parts... (lol)...

For my first baby I gained exactly 40lbs. I didn't get motivated to lose weight for 4 months. After that, I was able to lose the weight in 3 months. But, I only ran on the treadmill for 15 minutes a day and gave up sugar & flour. I work full-time & didn't have more than 15 minutes a day to exercise... It worked, but took me 3 months.

For my second baby, I gained 48lbs.. I had a lot more all day sickness, so when I was able to eat, I did not eat as healthly as I did with my first. I have lost 20 of the 48 lbs... so I have 28 lbs. to lose. I am breastfeeding, so that will help. I am so freakin' thirsty that I drink water like I live in the desert. I just want to start walking or something. I am up all night with my breastfeeding baby, so I don't get much sleep...

I just wanted to say all the information you posted is very helpful and I will use ot. I know most of it from taking nutrition in college but it is easy to get off track. I am 15 weeks along and I didnt go to the gym for the last month. Mainly since I have not felt well and I have been extra tired too. but still those are not great reasons to not get to the gym. I am back on track, going to the gym and still keeping healthy diet with low carb and high in fruits and veggies. I want to be healthy- and not gain weight since I am already overweight. I am 220 lbs. and I do not wait to gain excessive weight during or after my pregnancy. I plan to breastfeed for the 1st year to help- I plan to do 45 minutes cardio5 days a week with light strength trainging every workout. Any more advice?

Well u seem to be educated since u took nutrition in school! That's always a plus, and use what u know! Are u planning on doing the 5 day a week workouts after having the baby or during pregnancy? I would say in order to maintain ur weight during pregnancy try and walk on the treadmill for 35 mins a day only if ur body allows u to though, dont push yourself! What u have wrote seems well. What types of things are u eating though currently on a daily basis?

I was planning on that being my exercise plan now during pregnancy. I will go with what you have suggested then to be safe. I will use the treadmill for 35 minutes 5 days per week.   Right now I have been eating a small breakfast- sometimes just a Whole Grain Lean Hot Pocket that is Ham & Cheese. The nutrition information didnt look too bad- but I will see what you have to say.   For snacks I have been eating almonds, fruit such as mandarin oranges, apples, mangos, cherries etc. Lunch has been a green salad w/ mozz cheese & sometimes cut up chicken breast on top. If I dont do the chicken and Im still hungry I eat a Lean Cusine in addition to the salad. For an afternoon snack the same as the am or sometimes crackers. Dinner is usually something normal- I just make sure I watch the portion size. Last night we had whole wheat penne pasta with Spagetti sauce. I drink atleast 3 32oz bottles of H20 per day. Two that I drink while at work at my desk. Since Ive been pregnant I have really craved fruits. This is a great food group to crave- so it makes me feel good about my choices.

So far so good.. only thing I will have something to say on is... watch out for those frozen diet meals... they are loaded with sodium and sodium retains water! Same thing with the lean hot pockets, they have a shit load of sodium. So make sure to pay attention to nutrition labels, and if something contains more than 300mg per serving, put it down! Even if something has 150mg per serving but it has like 3 servings in it, then thats equal to 450mg of sodium, ya know? And this is the same thing with drinks too. Lots and lots of water is good. Fruit is definitely good, but dont over do it with the fruit, because obviously they are loaded with sugar, and the body can only take so much sugar at a time to use as energy. All excess sugars in your body are stored as fat. You are on the right track!   Oh and light weight training is good too during pregnancy. But dont over do it and dont get winded, when you become out of breath, that means ur not getting as much oxygen to ur blood, which means oxygen levels are decreased to ur baby. Let me know if u have any other questions.

40 minutes isn't enough.

you need to have your heart rate up for at least an hour to really burn fat.

for significant visible changes you'll need over an hour.

think about it: back in the day, we all led extremely active lifestyles before the advent of the car, computer, phones, food industry, etc. b/c we had to work to get our food-- chase it down, farm it etc.

so a mere 40 minutes isn't going to do it.

i've been running for years and i've still got cellulite on my "fun"ass-- i only noticed it decreasing when i was running ridiculous distances (like 14 miles), which had my heart rate up for 2 hours straight.

i don't diet at all. i do eat healthy though. but i'm not a purist and could never count calories b/c i love food and cannot make them into math equations... i'm sure if i were insanely regimented i could get my ass tighter, but i love eating and my ass just isn't that important to me.

I definately look forward to losing the weight after the baby. But one question.... I had a c-section with my first so more than likely I will have one again. Is it safe to begin working out right after you "feel" healed? I dont remember what my Dr. said the last time... Just wondering

Well I know with vaginal birth, the typical wait is 6 weeks. I dont know about c-section, check with your doc. They'll give u an exact timeline.

I know I was told nothing besides walking after my c-section. I'm 5 wks pp and starting last week I started doing 20 minute workouts using a dvd. This week I have started doing some exercies in the pool because it isnt so bad on my knees, and I try to walk some as well.

Your diet sounds exactly like mine when I was super obsessed with fitness a few yrs ago! Then I went to europe and started drinking, worked in a bar, ate too many pastries & grilled cheese & got fat. Following your diet, I went from a soft 127lbs, to a ripped 118lbs with 16% body fat in 6 weeks. I was a beast in the gym. I went from curling 10lbs in each hand, to 35's! I was lifting more than the guys. I got so high from it, I wish I could get that motivation back. My bf at the time was super into fitness and we were active together. My DH is a couch potatoe and can eat whatever he wants and not gain a pound, GrR. I also trained friends. My gf went from 153lbs to 127lbs in 6 weeks, and was into a size 5--which she hadn't been in yrs! My dad also lost 37lbs, in 12 weeks--I hated training him because only time he would go is 4am! I just showed up in my pjs and told him what to do =)
I want my old body back =( Do you have pics of how shredded you got? Muscles are sexy I think! I did a fitness shoot and have a few of them:
