I agree with the others, as long as they both want it..don't worry!

I think it's so sweet   .

my husband has been in my oldest son's life since he was 15 months (he is 4 1/2 now). At first, I taught my son to call my husband "Nate", but then we decided that we would just let my son call him whatever he wanted to. So, a few months before he turned 2, he started calling my husband "dad". My husband was perfectly fine with it, and he officially adopted him a month ago :-) (my son's bio dad has only seen him twice in his life....last time being 3 1/2 years ago...so my son actually has no clue yet that my DH isn't his bio dad)

aw, that's a sweet story
i'm just sooo cautious with it all. we've talked about adoption and stuff after marriage, but i even get nervous with that, haha.
and of course since carter's older it's his choice and i'm happy that he wants to call him dad.
we talked about it tonight and jason said we could talk to carter (jason's always wanted it) and just see how it goes from there
i love happy stories like yours though!

sometimes i do wish that my son was a little older, so that he could fully understand what adoption is, bc now we have to figure out when/how to tell him, ya know?
i understand feeling cautious though - i was excited for the adoption, but i dont know really know how to explain it....but i kinda had this feeling like "oh man...he's not just my son anymore...he will be my husband's as well" (both of us has been parenting my son, obviously...but i guess it just seemed so final? does that even make sense? lol). and of course i thought about what if something happened between my husband and i...i'm very protective of my son and i def. had different emotions going on. anyway - i'm rambling...but i know how you feel. but i think if carter wants it, and jason is very supportive of it, then i'm sure everything will work out just fine :-)

i DEFINITELY know what you mean!
after 7 years of my son being mine and only mine, the idea of someone officially adopting him, just, makes me nervous, but at the same time, like you said, happy.
and if things somehow didn't work out for us, i couldn't imagine fighting for custody...of my son.
and about adoption, i was adopted at birth-- but, er, my parents are white, so they never really had to 'tell' me   it sounds like you all have a great family set up and good luck with everything!

thank you! my mother-in-law was adopted, and she adopted one of her grandchildren, so we def. have the support there. and if your guy ends up adopting your son, then at least your son will have someone that understands it as well. good luck with everything as well....i've been following your posts for quite awhile...it's nice to see that things are working out so well for you now! :-)

Honestly? It's Carter and Jasons choice.

I've been through this with the boys and Alex. Connor now calls him dad, Rick wants to but doesn't feel like he can just yet.. that's more because he's not used to saying "dad" in general though, sadly  .

What does Jason think about it? Essentially he is his dad, so why not call the title!

Oh he's always wanted Carter to call him dad, and i said no 3 years ago because we obviously weren't stable enough and i didn't want carter losing a dad vs just losing a jason. (which ended up happening)
Now that we're in a different place, and we are stable, and Carter's also showing interest in it-- Jason's excited, haha. but nervous cos he feels like i'd still be cautious about it (which of course, i can't help but be) but i'm not gonna stop it from happening either.
we're just wondering now HOW to say to carter that yes, call him dad-- cos he's not gonna just start doing it with out like, the 'green light', cos, that's the kinda kid he is.

Awe... that makes me so happy to hear. It seem it's going to happen, and very soon.
