Shin splints. :(

posted 17th Sep
Ok so I have been doing really good with working out and eating "better" again. I love the feeling of my muscles being sore and the energy I get from all of it.
But here I am a week into the workout and yet again I'm getting REALLY bad shin splints.
My right leg hurts so bad I can't even touch it.   It's really pissing me off because I was doing so well. I love working out and I hate that now my body is making it impossible.
And on top of that my hip hurts and my knee hurts now too....

try taking a towel and rolling it with your toes after and before a work out it helps with shin splints. also freeze a water bottle and rolling it over them. before and during a work out tape ur shins. tape all the way down ! this is what my doc told me to do when I was in school and had bad shin splits/fractures

Elevate, ice and REST!!!!!!!!!!!! 800mg of Motrin will help with the inflammation and such.

You may have done too much too fast which is ok... but these things happen.
You also should make sure you are wearing appropriate shoes for whatever activity you are doing.

What do you mean by taping it? Will it get better over time? Like will I be able to do a full on workout or go on a run with out my leg hurting?
I can deal with the muscle pain. I actually like that. But this.... this is PAIN!

I had them terrible too when I was younger.

Now I don't get them as often. But when I do I always rest a few days. And by rest I mean maybe do weights or something that won't put strain on my legs.

Taping isnt going to do anything until you heal!!! If I were you, I would rest your legs at least a week. Maybe throw in some weights and SLOW walking.

If you love to run, you really should try to get fitting for the right running shoe. Might be most of your problem.

Taping Is actually helped me ease the pain.. u tape tight down wards. covering your WHOLE shin and than just tape around a lil below ur knee and than around near ur ankle covering the ends of the tape... My doc said this helped ease pain and helped so they didnt get worse... deff recommend good shoes. but Also talk with your doc about what to do cause sometimes shoes are not the problem! sometimes it can be the way your foot is arched!

I can relate. I started training for a 5k. After one week I had excruciating knee pain. Today is day 10 of no cardio and I hate that. But I don't want a long term injury, so I'd rather wait it out.

It'll get better, just don't push too hard until you start feeling better.
