WELPs, my LO has no clothes now.

posted 16th Sep
I decided to go ahead and celebrate being 36 weeks with washing my LO's clothes.

I washed it on cold and put it in the dryer on permanent press. Mind you, I live in NYC so I don't have my own dryer... and this was my first time using the dryer in my building but all of his clothes have SHRUNK to be soooooo tiny. The 0-3 look like newborn and the 3-6 look like 0-3.

Has this happened to anyone? Will my LO stretch them back out?

if they don't stretch out, just use them like that.. lol.
use the 0-3 while LO is in newborn clothes, and so on..

I was worried after reading the title when I got to the part about using the building dryer; thought maybe someone stole all the baby clothes

Glad that wasn't the case & sure hope they are able to some how get back to normal size.

Yeah, except the newborn stage is like 2 weeks... and he has a smurfload of 0-3 clothes.. I feel like my money, and everyone elses' just went down the drain.

Just use them when they fit and don't worry what the tag says.

LOL. Perhaps the title is a bit dramatic

That sucks! I'm not sure if they will stretch back out. I hate when things shrink in the dryer.

Well thats a given.

I guess my real problem is that the newborn stage is such a short period of time and now we have like 50 outfits that look like they are the size of a newborn.

I wanted tips on how to NOT shrink the clothes in the future... and if this happened to anyone else, if there is a way to get the clothes back to normal.

well, just use them when you can.
for most, those little clothes (up until 12mo or so) don't last long.. unless you have a small baby.. like my son. he stayed in newborn until he was about 4mo old.
3yrs old now, and can wear 24mo clothes.

there should be other settings on the dryers.
like, normal, fluff... etc.
i use normal on ours.

I always dry my clothes on a medium or low heat, especially LOs. I dry hers on low. For whatever reason baby clothes seem to shrink easier than adult clothes.

Hopefully you will get lucky and LO will stay small a little longer. DD1 was only 4 lbs when she was born so she was able to wear her clothes a little longer. DD2... no so small. lol

That sucks. D: Already been stated but at least you can just use the next size up if you have to.
Remember that all clothing brands are not alike when it comes to sizing too! I had 6-month stuff that was the same size as some newborn clothing! Felix has been wearing 6-month Carter's onesies since he was 5 weeks old but some 0-3 month stuff of other brands JUST started to be too small now (he is 5 months). So yeah. Also, it depends on your baby too at birth. Felix was in the 95th percentile for length so a lot of the newborn stuff I had was too short when he was born.

Like other people have said, drying on low seems to help a lot. I always wash his stuff on delicate too, and by itself. Probably not necessary for that but I feel better about it. lol

I do this too. Wash in cold and dry on low by themselves.

if you can change the heat setting on the dryer, put it on a medium or low setting so that they're less likely to shrink.
