Not really. I feel like every person that has answered has done it in a very respectful way.

We personally did not. I could not make a cosmetic choice for my son as a new born. He's now two and hasn't had a single problem with it and care is easy. My husband/his dad is cut but I don't see that being a problem when it comes time to teach him to care for it.

Just so you know, this condition is known as Phimosis. It can be treated a number of ways, including creams. Dr's in the US tend to rush to circumcision since it's so common anyways, and so few know how to handle foreskin, so they often answer with "lets circumcise" instead of attempting other methods. In other countries they don't have nearly the number of adults or older children who need the procedure done because they treat Phimosis in other ways. Just something to think about.

We tried 3 different creams over 6 months for my son ans it didn't work.

I understand that it can sometimes not work. My point was that if people hear all these cases, often other methods are not tried because Dr's aren't really knowledgeable about it here. They also don't value the foreskin, so they don't mind cutting it off instead of even other surgical procedures that don't actually remove the full foreskin. So if mothers here about ALL these people they know who needed it done later, that isn't really realistic anywhere else. Adult men/older children don't need it done all that much in other countries. Part could be due to poor care (a lot of Dr' suggested early retraction of the foreskin for a long time), or due to jumping to circing WAY early. In other words, all these times people talk about it "needing" to be done later in the US, a lot of them may not have really been needed.

I wouldn't do it *shrug* sounds like extra hassle. And Idk about the infection issue, I worked at a nursing home and with men that had dementia, men whose foreskin was intact and none of them had any issues regarding infection, even if they wore diapers, and could mess around with feces everywhere.... so if an old man with dementia wearing a diaper can avoid infections, I don't see why a fully capable 5 year old wouldn't? kwim?

we found out we are having a boy on tuesday.
since then all of DHs family and some of my american friends have asked if i will circumcise...
i have done my research when i got pregnant with my daughter, before we knew what she was.
we are NOT getting it done.
its not even legal to do it germany anymore unless its because of religious reasons, but i think they do it in the military clinic...
regardless - i am not going to put my son through something this unnecessary.
if it DOES become necessary later in life or if he WANTS it done, he can still get it done. this is something irreversible that has no real benefit to it. its not cleaner, it doesnt prevent anything if you know how to use condoms and how to properly clean yourself...

I would never have it done. It is cosmetic and unnecessary unless they have a medical condition, in the people who I have known to have had it done it has caused more problems than solved them. However, if it is something he wants when he is older and can make that decision himself then I would support him.

I agree, I have worked with the elderly and they have never, ever had a problem so a child wouldn't.

Myself and SO both knew if we were having a boy that he would be circumcised, it's just something we both knew we wanted for our child.

people overestimate the infection risk. We would have to go classes to learn how to wash a circ'd penis xD

i personally would have my son circ'd. it just seems logical to me bc wether or not their experience has worked out. it IS more likely to get infections and a baby is going to forget the pain wether its numb or not. a child-teen-adult will remember that FOREVER. and scarring? i wouldnt be getting my son circ'd bc it will make his penis "look" better it will prevent a lot of unnecessary problems and we wouldnt have to worry about having to harm him later when he may be able to remember the precedure.
