can nipple confusion happen at 5 months?
Maybe he has a preference to the bottle.

I don't know but I would just continue offering the boob like you normally would (or even more) and hopefully he'll get over it in a few days. Babies can go on nursing strikes like this sometimes and I'm sure with the bottle it'll be even harder to get through, good luck! Also, it definitely could be teething related.

I'm not sure as your LO has had both but they find it easier to drink from a bottle as they don't have to work so hard to get the fluid and therefore can become lazy and only drink from a bottle

They really are like that wether they're teething or not. Can you stick your finger in his mouth and feel for teeth?

Milk comes out of a bottle sooo much easier then having to work at the breast. Maybe he now has a preference.

Drooling and chewing indicates teething. From a breast feeding flier, "Sometimes, picking your baby up to nurse when she is asleep can trigger her to nurse as before. These nursing strikes frequently resolve on their own."
~ Good luck.
