I have to settle on an idea to write for it. That way I can plot beforehand. That's okay, right? lol.

Okay, so how much "plotting" do you guys do before you start? Do you plot the entire story? Just start with a basic idea? Do you just start with a random idea and see what it turns into?

I'm curious what others methods are and if they're working for you!

I'm working on plotting at least half of my story before starting.

Honestly this is probably not standard planning, but I daydream my story out for weeks before I start typing anything. Once I've got a pretty good idea of how everything is going to happen, I type out notes and character bios. Then I start writing, and modify plot and characters as I need to

Meh. I know what my story is going to be about only because it's based off of a real life experience. I'm still developing my characters a bit more as I don't want them to resemble their real life counterparts too closely.

I want to write something based on my SIL. She's a crazy religious fanatic, and I find that interesting. I'd LOVE to write something with that idea, with the MC being so immersed in faith like that, the sheer absurdity of it all.

However, she is no fan of mine already. Not really sure if I could get away with that, hahaha.

My story is actually based off of...well...my story. As in what I went through for the past 2 1/2 years and all that went along with it; people and their actions included.

Well they always say write what you know! It's nice too because you already know what happens, and you've got a lot to draw off of for your characters (even if you change them!).

I've never written anything autobiographical. I think I'm too private a person to put my life "out there."

Yeah, I understand that. I blog a lot and have done so about it. A fair few on here know what happened but no one knows every little detail. I'm going to change my characters just enough but not so much that you can't tell who is supposed to be whom.

Planning is fun   I've already got most of my stuff planned, so I'm plot outlining and working through some more specific plot problems.

Working on it makes me want to go ahead and write, but I'm trying to wait for November lol

Me too! I'm forcing myself to wait. I want to have it basically ALL planned and plotted. That will make writting it so much easier. I wont be stuck with plot issues that aren't working. It'll make it easy to crank out the daily word count.
