re: is 37 weeks a preemie?

Lol your cousin is silly. 37 weeks and 7lb is not a preemie. Tell her to look up the pounds for preemie and the pounds for newborn if its not already listed on the tag.

lol that's funny. preemie clothes barely fit my 4lb 14oz baby for long. unless she has a very short baby, I don't think they'll fit a almost 8lb baby.

i hope for the baby's sake she's not shoving it into preemie clothes..

37 weeks is early term, but can still be a preemie if they're having problems. My son was born at 37 weeks 2 days, and was in the NICU for a week, judged a preemie due to stopping breathing in the nursery and having to be intubated, plus preemie feeding issues. So they can be preemies...

But it doesn't sound like hers is. lol

My son was only 6 pounds 0 ounces, and newborn clothes drowned him. lol

what do u mean judged a preemie? a term baby can have medical problems doesnt make it a preemie just because he/she went nicu.

Because of his problems, they judged him premature and called him a preemie. The pediatricians in charge of the NICU. He was to be treated as a preemie for his medical care, even after he got out of the hospital.

It was just their way of noting his lung problems and making sure I told his pediatrician and any follow-up doctors once he got out of the hospital, I guess. But he was considered premature, even though by date he was just early term.

I guess the better way to put it...he had problems typical of a premature infant. Lung development, and feeding issues primarily.

I was told that 37 weeks is early term, 38-40 weeks is term and 40 weeks is full term... It didn't make any sense to me that there are different terms. But clothes size is just weight... That's all.

I think anything 36wks & earlier is premature....37wks is term, not FULL term but term & 40wks is full term.

My daughter was born at 37wks & weighed 8lbs 6oz.....FAR from fitting in preemie clothes. lol

My eldest was 37 weeks and the delivering doc/pedi also considered him preemie due to respiratory problems, trouble breathing, ect. He was also 6lbs 0oz.

My youngest was 6lbs 13oz at 37 weeks but stopped growing at 35 weeks due to IUGR and he was too considered a preemie due to organ development.

Poor kiddos!

But yes, this is because there is pre-term and then premature. Pre-term babies can be fine. Premature babies weren't mature. That's the point I was looking for earlier but it's just come back to me.
