Getting social security for your SN child.

posted 12th Sep
IF you have done this, was the process easy? how long did it take? how much money does you child get a month? do they back date to birth or till the porblems started happening?

what do you do with your childs money.. I was going to start an account for her and then possibly get some "cd's' growing in the bank for her for in the future... college fund if she can go to college or just money to help her live her life.

I was wondering the same thing but i wonder what makes a child eligible. My daughter as moderate autism along with severe asthma and mild heart problems and nobody has mentioned the possibility of her getting it

i loked it up online..im pretty sure emmalynn will qualify because of her seizures she has EVERYDAY... and thats a thing about epilepsy.. if they are seizure free they dont qualify..but she has them everyday, and is delayed on top of her chromomsomal issues..

My bubba has autism. It took about 6 monts total, and it was far from easy lol ( in fact a huge pain in the ass). If she has had her seizure issues since birth, they may give her back pay from that, with me they only gave us back pay from the day he was diagnosed ( which was about a year before I applied ). I had to send them doctors reports from every single doctor he had been to in that past year ( huge pain in the ass, for me it least lol ). His back pay check was right around 3 thousand, and I put all of that but maybe like 100 in a savings account for him ( the 100 went to sensory toys and things of that sort I couldn't afford before ). Then he started off with... Um... Don't take my word but I wanna say it was right about 627 a month. Each month I just split it down the middle, put half back and use the other half on stuff he needs, like with therapys and such.

My oldest gets it. He gets between 697-721 a month depending on how much DH makes.

The back pay is from the DATE you apply for benefits. You need documentation of whether its a life long disability, and that kind of stuff. He's gotten it since he was 8 months old, and as long as you have all the needed documentation and proof required you should be golden.Remember though, if you get it, and you decide to save it, once it is in savings for ONE year it is counted as income and will affect your LO's SS amount.

If they find out you are saving it ( Idk how they would lol) But if they did it's considered fraud and they could make you pay back however much they determine they overpaid you.

SSIDC is for your child's food, therapies ( which will be covered by medicaid anyways), special equipment, shelter, clothing and basic living expenses.

SSI I believe, you'd apply in your daughters name, your and your SO would be the guarantor. There should be a reason and it'd be disabled child
