Low Milk Supply, I need advice..

posted 12th Sep
When my daughter was born I tried to EBF and I did for 3 weeks, but I was hardly making any milk. I had to start supplementing with formula because no matter what I did she was crying/screaming and always hungry. I could hardly even express milk out myself. She would pull on my nipples while feeding to try and get more, even the LC I was working with seen it. She told me to get a hospital grade pump. So I did, I've had it 2 weeks, and pump every 2-3 hours. I get maybe half an ounce, if I'm lucky. Thats pumping for 20 minutes each side while massaging.

I really wanted to breastfeed my daughter. I don't know what else to do. I don't know if this plays a part but I was diagnosed with PCOS a few years ago, and I am overweight. My breast size did not increase at all when I was pregnant, I never became engorged and the little bit of milk that did come in took 7-8 days.

Shes 7 weeks old now, is it too late? Oh and no one will prescribe me anything for my low milk supply. My LC did just suggest Motherlove and my OB said to try it too. I was thinking of getting the Special blend tincture. Did it work for any of you?

this may or may not help, but when i was breastfeeding i would notice that on the days i had oatmeal for breakfast, my supply was better, i could get like 1oz more than usual when i pumped, and DD seemed to get fuller faster when i fed her..there are lots of things you could do or take to increase your supply   dont give up, drink lots of water and good luck!

They have this organic tea that I am going to try with this baby when he comes its called Mothers Milk.... I was also told to drink one 12 oz beer once a day 3x a week(it will not hurt the baby Ive done the research).... The yeast in the beer brings in the breast milk..... I had a hard time producing milk then I tried this and bam engorged breasts within a couple hours but the only downside to mine is I dont produce the hormone to open the glans to lactate so it just sat there and caused Infection and I had to dry up and formula feed.....
I hope you find something that works for you and your little one good luck

and yes beer actually does help.

even the non-alcoholic beer.

the brewers yeast in the beer promotes lactation..

This has all the same ingredients plus they say its more concentrated. Have you ever tried it? Its what my LC and OB suggested.

Fenugreek, lots of water, oatmeal, lactation cookies (there are recipes online for them), extra pumping sessions even at night. The more you pump or have her latch on, the more your supply should go up. It's supply vs. demand.
I was overweight after I had my son, my breasts didn't grow much (which isn't an indicator of if you'll be successful or not at BFing btw). I only lasted 8 weeks before my body decided it was done cooperating with me and I dried up. I hope you have better luck!

Eat REAL oatmeal
drink TONS of water and I mean TONS I was drinking 100+oz a day
Drink 2-3 cups of Mother's Milk tea and if you like the taste of black licorice (yuck) just Anice tea as well.
Take 3pills of fenugreek and 3pills of Blessed Thistle every 8hrs and in the morning also take a prenatal.
It needs to be 8hrs, even through the night so your body wont be overloaded during the day and then drop during the night.

CO-SLEEP, that saved me big time

Google lactation cookie recipes

Flax is good too.

I have and will always have a very hard time producing milk. A lot of people told me to give up and just switch fully to formula and I told them to kiss my ass. I was able to make it 8.5mos until my job closed and I couldnt afford to drive and buy the pills I needed.

Just know that a half ounce is pretty average and some women I know can't pump at all, but they ebf'd their kids. Pumps do not work as well as your baby will.
Don't look at the clock, be a pacifer, constantly being around and touching your kid, skin to skin time is awesome.
All those things will help.

Have you ever made those lactation cookies? Do they work? I know you use brewers yeast and oatmeal in them.

Doperidone is also great too. My friend was able to exclusively pump for over a year using it, however its pretty hard to get in the states and you have to order it online or something to get it to come to you.
