re: What You THOUGHT You Knew About Mormons

is it also true that there's some huge warehouse full of supplies and if anyone is in need at anytime they can seek help and get it? And you don't even have to be Mormon to get help? I think that's really great if it's true, that the people in charge of the church make sure that it's members are taken care of. BTW, I'm not a Christian and usually pretty anti-religion so it takes a lot for me to say that, lol!

There are times where the Temple is open to the public. Once a Temple is built and before it is dedicated they hold open houses so the general public can walk through it and see everything and ask questions about what is done in what room. There are things though that go on that we can't talk about out side of the Temple but it is a good way to get an understanding.

We (CT) is going to be getting a Temple soon!! YAY! The ground breaking should start this fall, and I am so excited to have the open house so my friends can go through and see how amazing and beautiful it is.

Yes and no. There is a place called The Bishop Store House. It is where people can go when they have fallen on hard times to get the help they need with food/supplies. It isn't open to the general public, but I have known people that aren't members that have been able to get help.

My family got lots of help through tbsh many of times awhile ago when we weren't making any money. It is a huge blessing.

The work and ordinences that are done inside are sacred..but I assure you while it is an amazing thing to be inside...no sacrifices of your first born are being administered lol

We don't hold religious Serbia in the Temples..our services are held in church buildings open to the public..Temples are used only for sacred work

lol! I just think it's kinda funny the way the mainsteam media has taken off with this and has made Mormons seem so nuts. And then I saw a compairson of Mormon and the mainstream Christian beliefs and they are very similar and both have the same fundamental principals. And they like to say how "crazy" the whole story of John Smith is but I'm sorry the same could be said for any religious prophet including Jesus. The more people get out there and talk about it the better : )

It is because they are sacred.   I can't explain the feeling and the joy and just peace you get from going. I was a little scared the first time I went to the Temple, because I didn't really know what was going to happen. But it wasn't anything that would shock you. haha It is beautiful. We make promises to the Lord, get married, and can do baptisms for the dead to name a few of the things.

SOOO true!! Thank for saying this!! I love it when people that aren't religious or of other beliefs can see that! Makes me happy. Sure there are some nut cases that are LDS, but that goes for EVERY religion, and I think people tend to forget that.

EXACTLY!! thank you..everyone thinks that because we believe in moderen day prophets were drinking some laced kool-aid..but if God is never changing and had prophets in olden times to guide his children because he loved him..wouldn't it be fair to assume he still loved his children and wants to guide us?
