Baby shower idea and questions

As you can see I am not pregnant.
SO and I have just been discussing our decision's for when we do have our first child, so we know what we want. One thing is the baby shower(s).
We currently live in Nebraska where majority of my family that's in the US lives, friends, and some new friends he has made since he moved here. I definitely want to do a baby shower here. Thing is all his family is mainly in Alabama and if we have to the extra money and time from work i would like to have one in Alabama for his family. What do you ladies/mommas think?

Also only SO and I will know the sex of our child and want to reveal it at the baby shower(s). I plan on making the cake myself, if all goes well. I am just curious where to find some decorations/things for games that could be for both sex, so the decorations don't give away if it is a boy or girl. I have only really came across them in Walmart and i only see blue and pink clothes pin, etc. Any ideas ladies/mommas? Also i want to play games through the baby shower that'll give hints to what the sex is and reveal with the cake.

If his family wants to throw a shower for you guys in AL, why not?!

Here noone throws thier own shower. It would be considered in very bad taste. A friend or family member always does it for you, usually as a surprise.

We had, 3 both of our families are in MI, and both sides hosted their own shower. Then our friends and coworkers here hosted one. It was all very thoughtful. We are not having any showers for this baby.

My mom had two with my sister but thats only because she was told she was a he so she had a boy baby shower then a girl one after my sister was born.lol

Yeah that happens here to, but i was raised if you cant pay for your own party or whatever you dont need to have one.
My dad is mexican. When a girl turns 15 they have a big party called a Quinceanera. We hated going to them for that reason. They have people called padrinos and padrinas that pay or buy or give money for certain parts of the party. My dad finds it SO tacky. He says if you need all them people to pay for your party then you dont need one.
So i guess since i was brought up different thats just how i am.
If people want to help that is fine but i am not going to ask nor hold anyone accountable for throwing a baby shower for me when that time comes.

In English culture a shower is about showering someone with gifts (whether it is for a new bride or a new baby) it is considered tacky to have your own because it is basically like asking people for presents!   But I know in different cultures there are different customs so I would just do whatever is tradidtional for you.

My family is mexican and white. His is black, white, and mexican. More black though.

I dont mind someone planning it for me, but since no one but SO and i will know what we are having it'll be hard for them to plan it. I would let someone plan it if i was included in the planning since no one will know the sex but SO and I.
