Home birth kit.....

posted 10th Sep
I just ordered and it is being shipped my home birth kit from in his hands. I got the deluxe and added umbilical scissors. Is there anything else I may need/want. I am not doing a water birth water never relaxed me or felt relief. So that is why I got the deluxe so I can wrap my bed up and have tons of pads to absorb fluid. Has anyone ordered this kit before, is all the paperwork included. I heard that you have to take a picture just before you have the baby and just after and go to the health department to get everything processed if you DON'T have everything. I just need to know what paperwork they need. It comes with a birth certificate and footprint kit. IDK with my second I had a midwife and my first and third was at a hospital so I have never done everything myself. Any helpful ideas of how things are done would be great.

You don't have a midwife attending the birth?
What about a doula?

Midwives and doulas travel, ya know... and labor usually takes hours and hours.

I tried for months to find one, and all three of my boys were born with 30 minutes of my water breaking. So mine don't take hours and hours.

i'd at least want a midwife there. that seems scary to go through alone. but if you choose that, GL

I couldn't do unassisted but good luck! Will your partner be there to support you?

Absolutely. I would never do it alone. Unless I had to.

I just read you're only an hour from a hospital? And your husband only has to drive 20 minutes? I mean, that's not that bad at all. Then again you know better than anyone. I just personally wouldn't feel comfortable with delivering a child an hour away from a hospital without someone whose profession is working with home births. So many things could go wrong and that extra bit of intervention could mean the difference between life and death.

Thats a big risk youre taking unless you are a qualified midwife/cn. Do you have any experience delivering?

You need to look up the requirements in the state you will be delivering in.Every state has it's own requirements.
I'm in TX and thankfully have heard it is fairly easy to get a birth certificate/social for an unassisted.

I'm sure she'll answer but I just read in another one of her threads that she is not a midwife. She wants to be one but is not currently one. She has four children and has short labors apparently... Still not enough to make me feel comfortable with something like that but to each their own I suppose!

Iowa it is legal to have an unassisted birth. Which yes I used to be a nurse, and I worked in labor and delivery. I was going to be a midwife but quit schooling to be a full time mom.

Not sure if your kit includes them but Perineal Cold Pads are amazing. They are like an instant ice pack inside of a maxi pad and are very soothing for afterward.
