Not playing with toys "right"

posted 8th Sep '12
I'll preface this with saying that Cora will be tested for an ASD like Asbergers in the next few months. It takes so long to get into the center

But I'm slowly noticing that she doesn't play with toys "right"

Like she makes puzzle pieces talk to each other and go on adventures. Or make towers with her princesses. Put makeup on plates.

Little things like that. But it just isn't "right". Like she won't put the puzzle together. And she doesn't make her princesses have tea parties.

Is this a concern I should note and journal? Or is it not a big deal?

I would definitely keep track of things like that to bring it up. If she was younger, I would say no big deal. But at almost 4 1/2 I *think* she should be using things the right way. She could just have a wild imagination though

I am no expert.

She sounds SUPER CREATIVE! I think that is amazing, especially since my child HAS to have everything go in its place and do its thing, he hates changing things up.

Why are you having her tested for Asperger's? She just sounds very creative to me.

Oh Cora is like that too. Her dolls can only wear certain dresses and they can't wear other doll dresses. And her crayon are "in order" according to color. And her sandwiches can only be cut a certain way

trust me. She is all kinda of OCD about some things

how old??
because DS plays "odd" too then...
I've never thought much of it, and figured it was just his imagination.
but anything he is playing with, markers, puzzle pieces, little creamers at the restaurant, etc. he pretends they're football players, and can act out a whole game.
he even does it with his food sometimes, like his fruit snacks.

I haven't noticed it with anything else.

but I'd say its just a wild imagination. and not to worry.

That is one of the markers doctors and psychiatrists look at during the evaluation and a question that might be asked of you when you fill out paperwork. Almost 2 years ago when Kieran was initially assessed that question came up a lot.

Go ahead and note anything that strikes you as unusually. I wish you luck, my son was diagnosed with aspergers 2 years ago when he was 4.

I would definitely note it. Although it could be just a creative imagination, that might be one of their questions.

It's at the recommendation of a child psychologist she saw through the school district

She apparently has a ton of "red flags"

Best of luck. I was a very creative thinker as a kid, would pace back and forth, literally talking to myself having imaginary conversations with people I'd made up in my head. Ended up being bi-polarism.
